Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

I have opportunity to buy one of these for $160. The main negative is that it has the receiver glued in with JB Weld. It's been shot lots and in the field plenty by looks of the stock and bluing. 1 mag. I'm good with a project but is this one worth it for the price? I'd want to break the bedding to properly pillar/glass bed the action and trigger guard plate. Your thoughts?

Nevermind, it's gone. Wasn't meant to be I guess.

Sounds like a reasonable deal, too bad you missed it.

That's okay, I found one new in box at High Caliber Services.

If anyone is looking for magazines, Durham Outdoors has Scorpio EM332A 10-round mags for $21.95 ea. They are supposed to fit so I bought 3 to give it a try.

Thanks for the tip, they better work, I just bought 2 to try. :)

I know there are many pages to this thread but read through. Unfortunately most of the pictures have gone away, maybe some of the guys who posted pics on the work they did could repost them? I plan on spending the winter performing all of the accurizing mods as detailed in this thread and photos would be a big help! Thanks.

It’s just the EM332 mag I want to make working good for the NS522.
Not other improvements, I’m treating my NS522 as a field plinker.

I got the two EM332 mags now, they seem to sit very tight against the mag release. The mag release becomes too tight to call it a fit. So yes some tuning needed indeed, they don’t look identical to the NS522 mags looking from the lip front.
I searched through this and other threads, have not found any tuning tips.
Any suggestions from anyone who has actually done it before?
Thanks.

It has been for too long since the last time I had an EM322, so I am having trouble remembering much about the mags. I seem to recall them not being a close fit, but I could have that bass- ackwards.

My Scorpio mags are at the post office, looking forward to trying them.

Were the NS522 rifles sold with one or two mags? I've heard either depending on when the distributor released them. I bought one in the grease with two mags and I also bought one from a forum sponsor who says they only came with one. I've seen elsewhere that people posted comments on this but nothing conclusive, just wondering if I got hosed for a mag.

Unless your NS522 is very different from mine, you can’t just try your EM332 mags. It will be tight and your bolt won’t close.
My NS522 mags has a whole section on the front of the mag that is cut out comparing to the EM332 mags.
Those extra material prevents the bolt from closing, I’m gonna get help to drill and cut it out.

I guess what I meant by try is to try fitting them and see how they fit and see what potential issues need to be resolved. If you have found that some bolt clearancing needs to be performed I'm expecting the same issue then. I'm going to buy a drill press and vice to help with pillar bedding, it sounds like I'll be using it for magazine mods as well.

Perfect use for the drill press!

If it was me, I would be investing time with the Scorpio mags. Mainly due to the simple fact that they are current production and easy (I think) to source. The EM mags are nearly as scarce as the NS are last time I checked.

But, having said that,. I would be all about trying if I had the choice.

Now, where is ma beer...

Hey all,

I get alot of requests for pics to go along with my text for this thread. I snapped some quick photos of the key things that I modded on the Eggroll and will post them on page 1 with an update banner.

I am not sure what version of the trigger spring I was trying when I last had a session with the Roll. And To be honest I have not shot her in a long time. I also feel I should apologize for the poor pics I just added, as I know they are far from clear, but they will do for now. I am committed to fixing this thread soon and restoring it to what I think it used to be. An awesome resource! As always if I can help, or send anyone more pics just PM me.

Thanks!

-Dan

Thanks for re-contributing some photos Father, as I get into my mods I will post some of my work as well. I got a great deal on a nice drill press so all I need is a decent vice and some Devcon to get rolling. Oh yeah, and some precious time. Can you post a pic or two of the floor plate bedding and the pillars? Cheers!

Mine only came with one; ordered a second one with the rifle. Dealers stated 1 mag on their website.
