Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Update: I have both, the NS522 and the scorpio em322 . after having them both torn down I have found this:
bolts can be interchanged
transfer magwell from the scorpio to the norc to use the 10 round mags
the 522 fits into the scorpio stock.with clearancing for the larger barrel.

interesting :)

How's the Scorpio shoot? I've yet to see some 50 yard serious groups. Would really appreciate some feedback.

the scorpio out of the box shoots very well . next time I;m out I'll do some bench rested groups @50 yards. Planning on doing a trigger job to it & the few tricks I've learned with the norc.

update: the Scorpio is a NS522 without the bull barrel. Mags are interchangeable . I now plan to pillar the scorpio & do a trigger job with the safety pin spring mod to bring down the trigger pull weight. I will also be doing the over travel stop. I also plan to hog out the stock of the scorpio so that the NS522 will fit into it. Picture below show the similarities between the 2.

Cheaper to buy a Scorpio for the trigger...they are only $200.
Did the trigger break? A gunsmith might be able to weld it back together.

Was trying to drill and tap a hole for creep and it snapped being too brittle. It still works, but
I need a good TIG man to add metal and I'll try again, but thought there might be some spares. I want to sell the gun, but would like to fix it first.

You most likely would lose all profit after a good tig person has at it.

Parting it out would be most likely quite lucrative in my opinion.

Great news!

Now, the question remains is the secret to the accuracy in the barrel then?

Here's a question. Anyone ever pull a barrel off one of these? If a person could get a sale priced scorpio it might be a good basis for a build. Triggers are nice and easily modifiable, all steel, easy to bed, twin action screws, well designed bolt and best off all CHEAP.

have had one in my rack since day 1- used this thread to re bed the crap job it came with but have never fired it- sadly at 74 years old I just put it up for sale in the EE- sure loved reading these threads especially those from Vancouver Island shooters. thanks

They are decent guns, biggest complaint I have is the balsa soft wood. Dents if you look at it too quickly...have to sneak up on it.
With the Scorpio at sub $200 there is little less appeal for these. I actually like the Scorpio a bit better to be honest.

How's the Scorpio shoot? I've yet to see some 50 yard serious groups. Would really appreciate some feedback.

Prone with bipod on a windy day gave me 6 five shot groups. Largest was 1.03" smallest was .445". I was using eley greenbox "sport?". 50 yards.

I think it may be able to do 1/2" challenge, will probably try this summer. The more I use it the less I like the stock though. Takes a few shots to warm up and if you let it cool off you have to start over warming it up.

I tried a few kinds of ammo in mine last weekend. The cheap sterling ammo from Canada ammo smells like Ely, and looks like it might have promise. This was by far my best group of the day, but I really haven't shot much the last couple years and am pretty rusty. Hopefully with some practice I can consistently do this good, would be especially awesome with $30/brick ammo but I doubt that will happen. 5 shots at 57 yards.

Is anyone still tinkering with these little rifles? I was hoping to go to a rimfire PRS intro at my local range this spring, but the corona virus got that cancelled. I was thinking of using my NS522, but the 5 round mags would suck. I ordered a couple 10 round mags for the EM332 and will try them out when they show up. I didn't really care for the tall dovetail rings I had on it, so I modified a cheapo dovetail to Picatinny rail to fit. I also threaded the barrel and made a nut just for giggles, and am waiting on stock bedding to cure now. My bolt was still binding pretty bad when I tried to cycle the action with any kind of speed, and showing wear marks on some high spots, so I used lapping compound to smooth it out some. I also removed some of the sharp edges I missed when I originally got the rifle. I still kind of want to try making a target style stock so it works better shooting from bags at the range, but then I could also just modify the one I have and paint it rather than doing an oil finish. I'll see how my epoxy putty bedding turns out I guess. The scope on it now is a Simons 6.5-20x50, that will have to change if I get into PRS shooting as well.
