Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

I finally had time to play around with mine recently. I sanded off the horrible dark stain and refinished the stock with about 6 or 8 coats of tung oil. I also free floated the barrel and made a new trigger spring while I was at it. I will maybe eventually get around to properly bedding the stock, bit that can wait for now. The flash washed out and overexposed a bit when I took the pictures, the butt stock in the second picture is about right though. When I started sanding and saw how uneven the finish was and how wavy the sure face of the wood was, I started thinking I maybe should have left it alone. It took a lot more sanding than I expected to get the old finish off and a good surface on the wood. It turned out OK though, apparently gentlemen do prefer blondes.

I've worked in the oil patch for more than 10 years around sour gas and have a very poor sense of smell now. This is nothing compared to some of the stuff I've worked with. This was my first time using tung oil, and it doesn't smell as strong as linseed oil.

Fair enough.

Your nose is a better man than me.

Does everyone feel that this rifle is still a good value at ~$400 taxes included? I'm interested in acquiring one but there are other options in the $400-$600 price range that interest me.
