Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

They were an unknown rifle for quite awhile.
They do have an interesting history. Imported into Atlanta, GA. in the mid 1990's with little fanfare, the rifle was picked for last minute inclusion in a Gun Tests article that was to compare a Cooper, a Kimber, and an Anschutz. Small-bore metallic silhouette shooting was a big deal in the U.S. at the time, and the Gun Tests article was to compare the suitability of those three high-end rifles for that purpose. One of the editors had just acquired an NS-522, and they decided to include it in the test to see how a budget rifle (the 522 listed for $399) would stack up against those three high-end rifles. The NS-522 acquitted itself well, and, thanks to the publicity generated from the Gun Tests review, sales took off.

The Clinton admin. then banned sales of Chinese-made small arms in 1997, including the 522. Some 2000-2500 had been imported, with some apparently making it into the country without any bolts (the NS-522 was sold to KFS as a barrelled action. KFS then fitted the Bishop walnut stocks in Atlanta). KFS apparently shopped around for a sub-contractor to supply the missing bolts, and the rifles were sold in small lots until about 2012 when the supply of finished rifles finally ran out. What happened after that is conjecture, but quite apparently a number of 522 barrelled actions made it into Canada, where they were fitted into Norinco EM-332 stocks and then were sold at very good prices. So, yes, by the time they created a stir in Canada, the rifle had been out of production for some 15 years, and had been largely forgotten about in the US.

I'm looking for an extractor, extractor plunger and spring for one of my NS522. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

No clue here. The rifle was made in relatively small numbers (perhaps 2000-2500 units) about 20 years ago. I'd go with Father's suggestion and either make the parts or try to have them made. Good luck!

It is just a little file work and would be an awesome thread addition!

Man, now I wanna make one

Yup Minimouse has really nice SN522's !!

Did a safety pin ( Doubled the coil ) trigger job this morning , feels like a set trigger now , I have no trigger pull scale / gauge so I don't know at what weight it breaks .

It passes the bump test .

This many help with my groups once I get use to the trigger pull which is much lighter and seems to break very clean , a little polishing was done which may have helped too.

May go try it tomorrow but the sky has turned dark , may rain ,,,,,,,,,,,, Father,,,, let us Pray ... LOL

Hi Father

Looks like Your rain god did a number here , 4 Heavy Thunder storms have rolled through since this morning and the 5th is lining up as I write this PM .

Oh well , there is always next weekend .

All the best Father !!

How close of a copy is this to an Anschutz 54?

I was reading on Rimfire Central that there is a Savage magazine that fits the 54 very well.

Brownell part number 533-400-355MB

I don't have my NS522 yet but it'd be interesting to see if it would fit or not.
