Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

That's the nicest rest I have ever saw !!!
The stock is Awesome and Very Well Done !!!!!!

" I wouldn't mind finding a single shot adapter though. " No Problem ... just put one bullet in each mag and shoot lol.

Father was trying to make one , he be the one to talk to .

Single shot adapter? Not me. I am slow enough as it is loading the factory mag! I want to redo my bolt handle though. I think aluminum was a poor choice.

Yup , trigger mod is the way to go if even you do nothing else , takes 5 minutes for a basic spring replacement .

Pillar the two screws holes , it's is easy and makes for a solid secure action , wood is a bit soft on these rifles.

We need more mods and pic's to inspire us to keep pushing the limits of possible improvements !

As a side note I repaired the top turret on my scope , click , click , click ,, now I'm happy , so the next range report will ( hopefully ) have better data on accuracy/ ammo types at 100 and 200 yards .

( hope I have enough elevation to zero it at 200 yards )

Just to recap , the mods / improvements I have done on my rifle todate .

1)- Free floated the barrel
2)- pillared
3)- Trigger job , light polish and double coiled a large safety pin ( cut and bent to fit) , passed bump test as safety check ,
4- bi pod installed
5- light polish of the receiver , not the bolt .

Rifle is not bedded , undecided on this mod as the stock has a very strong tight fit ........ time will tell ..

Went shooting today ,, top turret now working , packed up the van and off I went even as there were dark storm clouds in the sky , as the range is more than an hour away I felt it was worth a go at it.

Got to the range , temp 75 degree F but the wind was picking up and the sky did not look to bright .

At the start the wind was not to bad but as time went on it became stronger and more unpredictable , some shooter left and others gave up shooting at 200 yards except those with 223 and 222 , 22-250 as the bullets flight time is so short wind defection was less of an issue due to bullet speed .

I had to adjust my NS522 ( hope that's right ) to 100 yards , as it was sighted for 50 yards , ( top turret broke last time out and I could not raise the elevation , now fixed , I used a base line round , the Remington Target 22 lr to sight in at 100 yards ( Pic 1 )

The test target was a Shooting Federation of Canada , 22 sporting rifle , 20 yard target . 6 different types of ammo was used ( 10 shot groups ) , not my best shooting and the wind did not help ... I think at longer ranges better quality Target ammo on a calm day would produce more constant groups . I find bulk and lower priced ammo less constant shot over shot .

Once I had it sighted in on the Center of the target I started the test before the Thunder storm arrived ,, and It did !!!

Do you do fouling shots between ammo types? If not you are probably not reaching each ammo types true potential. Very often ammo will group way better after 20-30 fouling or break in rounds when you switch ammo. I always run a bore snake and then 20 rounds of the new ammo before I shoot to see how well that ammo works in that gun. Very often it is amazing how groups shrink when you do this.

Hi buddy

No I did not clean the barrel during the testing nor did I foul the barrel with 20 rounds . I will have to try that , thanks for the info !!

I am not an expert target shooter by any means , much to learn and try .

I think the best score was Auto match with 87 out of 100 possible points @ 100 yards on a 20 yard target , not to bad of an old guy lol.

The wind was a big issue .......

I'm sorry Father , I thought it was you who was working on the single shot adaptors , I was wrong , it was ben777lemay .

Yeah I was working on a single shot adapter ( SSA ) but I sold my NS 522 about 2 weeks ago because I had too much rimfires.
I came very close to have a perfectly working SSA. The hardest part is to find the perfect sitting angle and the perfect depth for the ammo.
The last one I did was not enough deep but it was very close.

If I have spare time in the next days maybe I will take a small cut to remove more material on my last attempt and send it to Father for testing...

My new trigger spring. Sourced from one of my kids hair clip thingies. I don't have a trigger pull gauge, but it is definitely lighter. It passes a bump test as well. Next is a bedding with brass pipe nipples and then a full cleaning up/polishing of the action and trigger mechanism. Maybe do a trigger over travel stop as well.

This rifle is awesome!
