Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

I had to pound one out with a cleaning rod and hammer, does that count? Didn't chamber nicely, then didn't fire, and when I used the cleaning rod to try and force it out the cleaning rod snapped, I ended up hitting what was left with a hammer to get it out. Treated it like an SKS, lol. My only problems have been with CCI standard velocity, are they a touch bigger or something? The Lapua and Ely chambered really nicely in comparison. The few Green Tag I had left to try were fine, just seemed to be the SV?

Ohh,

Unfired CCI? Well that would be brutal due to the leads engagement in the lands.

Acunning , what is the size and brand of those rings to fit that scope . I have been looking to find a good scope for this riffle that isnt expensive but of good quality .Any other suggestion for scope that would be in the same range as the mueller.
Thanks

Well, my Eggroll did me some proud today, so I thought she deserved some bling. I dressed her up with some scrap aluminum I had lying around the shop. I still need a wee bit more fit and finish on the butt pad,
But Im done for tonight. Tomorrow I will add a bit at the forend to tie it all in.

So, this is what I was up against today. This a quick vid I took in between banks of my bother in law shooting a Savage Mk2 with a custom Benchmark barrel and a bunch of other mods. You can see how dead steady his hold is if you watch the muzzle of the rifle and you can hear the rounds hit the targets. He is a very, very good shot and it was nice to be competitive with him using my Eggroll. JUST CLICK PIC FOR THE VIDEO.

UTG AccuShot Premium Mid-Profile Airgun .22 Ring for 1-Inch Scope, 4 Screws
Sold by Amazon.com.ca, Inc.

Had to look it up, lol. Same place I bought the scope. Umm, lifetime warranty might be an issue, no dealers in Canada, and not sure you could get your repaired scope over the border??

;)

That whole episode was bad. The rounds had to be chambered firmly, and then one didn't fire, and of course wouldn't eject. Don't understand what exactly was going on, but a light tap on the broken off cleaning rod and it popped right out. Got a couple scuff marks on my fingers, seemed to be the only damage to anything. Guess I better get a one piece cleaning rod to replace my brass segmented one, which is a complete fail according to the cleaning gurus in other threads.

Send it to me. I'll give her a good home! LOL!

A "Cleaning Guru" I am not, but I have an el cheapo 3 piece aluminum rod I keep in my range box for such emergencies. I also have a small brass prybar that I would use to attack the rim if needed. I do own a Hoppes delux rod set though.

Sorry, shipping would cost too much, lol. And I'm having waayy too much fun! And I haven't even done any mods on her yet. Your bling looks sharp, by the way.

Thanks man!

Any help I can give you let me know. I never had any extraction issues at all on fired rounds. Even with my super worked over bolt I would be unable to utilize the bolt to remove a chambered and unfired round. That is just the breaks with a match chamber.

Father, that bling looks sharp!

Thanks!!!!

It was my plan all along to add a butt pad spacer, but I saw soo many beautiful rifles at the match that I thought some shiney aluminum would look minty against the ebony stain.

Im a little leary to slice the forend in half tonite, but hey, why not?!

I was thinking that there would be a sharp edge or something that would make rounds hard to chamber, especially when the rounds chamber at an upwards angle, but then found it seemed to be brand dependent, so put it on the backburner for a bit. Did you find a burr in the chamber?

I explained this earlier, but it was a while back.

The NS522 has a match chamber. The
Difference between a match and a sporter (most .22 rifles) is that the chamber is "shorter" so when some brands of ammo are longer than others, they engage the rifling much deeper than other brands. There is no bur, but if you have never had a match chambered rifle before it can seem like something is off.

Measure a round of something that is easy to chamber from rim to tip and do the same with CCI to see what I mean. Make sure you use a half decent set of calipers too. The difference may be very slight, so the ruler on a swiss army knife is out as a tool of choice here!

Here is a sweet link with your issue explained by a match barrel company

Oh, that makes sense, I never realized they could be made differently. I'll have to pick up some calipers and check that out. And what effect does this end up having on accuracy, if one round is seated deeper than another?

Ahhh. Glad you asked!

The differnce is night and day.

Bling completed!

The spacer for forend sucked! It is hard to believe that such a small piece was more work than the butt pad and grip cap combined.
Anyway, turned out pretty good and I kept the finish intact. If I was smart and had planned ahead and done the bling during the stock redo, then it would have been soo easy. I am fortunate I didnt monkey up the finish. Tomorrow I will clean it all up and take a buffer to the whole thing.
