Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

My Savage is kind of picky. It likes CCI Standard Velocity, CCI Minimags, RWS Rifle Match, SK standard plus, but really likes SK Rifle Match. At $65 a brick I wish it liked something else. I just grabbed some more ammunition to try but I've put every type of federal through it with not much luck. I hear these NS522's like the Federal 510 and 711B which is easy to find here.

I went from firing the SK stuff to the mini mags and I thought I broke the rifle. Those SK rounds are sub-sonic and oh so sweet to shoot. The waxy residue gets a little annoying though.

There are two places I know of where you can buy the SK, and Lapua stuff in Canada. Prices are'nt bad if you compare it to centerfire :)

The Eggroll does well with most, but is dead nutz accurate with Fiocchi SV followed by Federal Auto Match. I can find zero premium ammo where I live, so I have only fed it the 11 kinds I can find.

At the Silhouette match on Sunday the provincial champ was shooting Master class using Dynapoints in his EM322, so that should give you an idea on how well some of these shoot. He told me he had just ordered an NS522.

That's one hell of a daisy. Could use a reblue :)

Yeah, we got it like that from my Father in law. It is pretty cool, as I had never seen a Daisy cork gun.

You really need to try Fiocchi SV in your savage. The reason I have it is my bro in law (the one in the vid i posted) shoots a Savage as his rig. When he had the factory barrel on it the best ammo for it was the Fiocchi.
I have since tried it in all my Savages and if they like CCI SV, they will shoot even better with the Fiocchi.
Try it.

Like I mentioned, the provincial champ was shooting cheap bulk pack Dynapoints out of his (less expensive little brother) the EM322. Mine does OK with 333/555. It really has been improving as the barrel settles in.

Did you brother in law re-barrel his savage?

Where do you buy Fiochhi?

Yes. His Mk 2 now sports a match chambered ( for CCI SV) barrel from Benchmark. He did extremely well with the stock barrel though. I have shot my Eggroll side by side with his while ammo testing before any mods. I mean, when it still was sporting a Tung oil finish and it shot very close to his savage. Now that it has been bedded and the trigger work done....

Who knows! He has $1300ish ( maybe more with gunsmithing charges) into his rig with scope and it shoots amazing. The Eggroll and scope
Cost me less than $300, so I am sooo pleased! I just wanted a winter project in the begining, as I had a very nice Savage rig of my own that shot very well.

I live on Vancouver Island and the only retailer I know of is Island Outfitters in Victoria.

Considering CA still offers free shipping, im not sure
That its a good deal. UNLESS,.. The previous owner cleaned all the cosmo out of it. That is worth a good $50 for sure!

I considered that epps one, but maybe there is something wrong with it, and the savings was only $38 over getting a new one from can am

I was planning on going to look at the Epps one the week after next. I agree that it would be beneficial to buy the new one. And I confirmed that the one at EPPS is the same stock as the Can Am ones.

So at the end of the day its not much of a deal I guess.

To be honest, I would easily pay that for a used one. I honestly feel that the rough feel of the stock rifle would put off some non tinkerers.

So, how is it going?

I had to abandon my project ideas so I will continue to follow yours with great interest. Any groups up?

I wanted to see how these rifles do on the bags at 50 yards. I have a Savage MKII that I put an appache trigger kit on, a SSS stock, and a few other little tweeks. I wonder if it shoots as well as the NS522 does, and if not should I sell it to fund this new project?

LOL,

Funny thing you ask. I do not have the ammo locally to conduct full testing. I will have to make a trip out of town to get a decent selection before I can fully test. I am starting a new project based loosely on a benchrest style platform.

But ammo is like a white whale here lately.

My opinion based solely on my personal experience is this. The most accurate MK2 I have ever owned was an FVSR and i regret selling it. BUT, it was not nearly as consistently accurate as the Eggroll. I have mentioned my bro in laws Benchmark barrelled MK2 and that is accurate, very accurate. I would say that the loose chambers on a factory MK2 would be the deciding factor in my opinion.

All this and I just discovered the crown on the Eggroll is not 100% concentric tells me that it will continue to surprise me. A crown redo is in order over the next few days or so. I have been pondering a Benchmark barrel for Eggroll #2, but im just not sure. I think true accuracy is going to be the test for a bench gun.

I have been spending alot of evenings considering my trigger. I need ounces for a bench gun. And I WANT to keep the factory trigger just as much as the barrel. I just want to.

I am really planning this one out.

Got some more ammo to try out, 70 yds, 20 shot groups, because 3 just doesn't cut it! And I was really checking for flyers and group size. Going to try it out with the bipod today if I can muster up enough clothes, -12 with an "in your face" wind. My other choice involves an open station tractor and straw bales, neither one is balmy, lol.
