I have an old setup using a one gallon paint can. It worked, but the smooth steel sides did not move the medium well, especially when there was 60 or 70 rifle cases in there. Glued in three half-inch baffles using contact cement, and the difference was amazing! Reduced the cleaning time by at least half.
 
Then, if you can find an old coffee grinder in your junk pile, you could fashion a corncob grinder and get all the polishing media you'd need by recycling empty corncobs and walnut shells...

If you reload a lot, maybe you could find an old cement mixer, THAT would be good for an entire club's needs!
