PAL "in progress"

in the call interviews, both to the person applying and the persons of reference, what questions are asked?

for your references, questions like

does ###### have a facination with workplace violence?
history of violence or anger issues?
Drugs or alcohol abuse?
Recent breakdown of relationship
Suicidal?
Any public safety concern

really stupid #### like that.... for the questions about your application, they basically just re ask all the questions that you answered on the application

they asked my dad if i ever forced him to do anything against his will... he said he laughed out loud. also asked if i would ever become violent, and he said what does that mean? if it was self defense he would hope so... i guess that was the right answer cuz i got my license no problem.

It took me seven and a half months to get my PAL/PAL-R. No idea why. So for anyone reading, don't get too worried even if it's going way over the 45 day thing that they promise.

WRONG
If you dont get your RPAL on day 46, [if you didnt call on day 28 asking whats up] scream bloody murder.
there is NO BACKLOG

Because you were complacent enough and patient enough to and submissive enough to wait SEVEN AND A HALF MONTHS for something that you could have had IN HAND in 32 days.. doesnt really justifying that wait to others.

I just meant that it does come even if it takes long. It processed fast through the RCMP but the SQ here in Quebec took forever. I did call but they kept telling me to wait. I just wanted to make sure my file wasn't lost or something.

From the day I put the application in the post to receiving my license in my mail box was 47 Days. From the date the CFC officially received it to the date it was issued was 37 days. All in all I was impressed by the people I talked to and found them very good to deal with.

Not yet received

I sent mine on May 10th, and it has not registered as being "received" yet. I figure its in the pile waiting to be opened.

I will be them the month, then check to see if they have even received it yet. I figured the easiest way to know that it was getting processed was to check up on my credit card balance, since that was my method of payment. Just another way to keep an eye on how slow the bureaucratic gears turn!

CFC told me that ALL applications are opened the day they are received and stamped. They then go on to another "station" where they're inputed into the computer system, then they're processed which can be anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks. The waiting period begins from the time they're stamped.

They likely have received and stamped your app but just haven't put it into the system yet.

Non restricted.

Recieved the test results back from the CFO exactly three weeks minus a day .

Xpressposted from ontario on April 28.
Arrived 30th.
Website updated on the 15th to the "initial processing" status. Credit card also billed.
May 28th, website updated to license issued.

Exactly 28 days from being received.
No calling of references. No phone interview.

In Bantario.

Ok, so I was reading replies to this post yesterday and wondered about my own application that was received by them on 04/06.

I checked online to see that my application was still in the processing stage, so I called to check on the status (like I had read some suggest on these posts). It wasn't 45 days just yet but I figured I'd give it a shot.

Found out one of my references still hadn't called them back and so yesterday I politely asked for him to get off his arse and do it because that's the only thing delaying this.

I just checked my status online to see this:
Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)
:D <------ me

Would have gone faster but time was also used up sending me a letter telling me that I didn't have one of the questions completed (obviously my own doing).

It's cloudy and wet outside and yet it's a most beautiful day!

Now you get to go through the anxiety of waiting for it to actually arrive through the mail. Today will be day 8 (yes, I know, approx. 2 weeks). I have a shotgun ready to ship as soon as it arrives.

i called the local CFO and had my PAL # within 5 minutes of the website updating . Thats all the retailers need..

Wierd, I emailed the CFC to get my number because I dont know which number to call, and she said its not legal to give out the PAL number, and she said under the firearms act the buyer needs to be in possession of a PAL.

Can anyone supply the number, or extension if there is one?

Probably goes with technical or customer support for anything else. Ask a different person, get a different answer.

Prob email wise, they won't do. You could be anyone as far as they know.

Denied. Great suggestion but the staff member who answered the phone at the CFO office was of the opinion that I had to have the PAL in hand to even make the order. I'm sure if I just kept calling and got a different person I would eventually get it. Which just goes to show that a lot of what they do is based on their 'opinion' and not actual law.

I just got off the phone with the RCMP for my interview and the website was
updated following the phone call

Application Received on: 2009/05/04

Maybe you can help me...
Interviews are done. Called the hotline. Said it was yadda yadda processing at my CFO's office. On the website it says I've just completed initial processing, but I know for sure its gone through the motions... Should I bother calling my CFO for my PAL#?
