Have you called to see what it is they need? I knew I sent mine without the CFSC proof - so my message said this until I called, then faxed my forms through. If I had waited for the letter - it would have been much longer.

I faxed through the information and by the next day my status changed.

Hey!, I appreciate your worry...

I actually checked yesterday evening when they were closed. So I'll call in an find out today if they have all the information. I'll get my references :), and ex-girlfriend  to call in.

I still have plenty of time to wait, I'm trying to keep myself from exploding with anticipation :p

Cheers,
Sand

Application Received February 12th 2010
Licence Received June 9th 2010

117 Days Waiting

However, I count myself very lucky as my card wasn't stuck to the adhesive on the sheet of paper but still managed to make it into the envelope.

I have a buddy that has written both as well, and is STILL waiting.....

I told him to phone to speed up the process, but he is either too stubborn to do it, or just doesn't believe me.

In any case, make the call, it's an 800 number so it's not like it will cost a person anything but their time on the phone

Unfortunatley for me, the call I made was unsuccessful due to the backlog of applications in Alberta. I'm just glad it didn't take 6 months.

Curious: When anyone applying for an PAL/RPAL did their interview, did they ask you WHY you wanted to own restricted firearms? I said target shooting, because of course that's the truth, but I thought it was an odd question, really. I suppose my only other option was to say collector, but our firearms instructor said to never proclaim yourself a collector.

Besides, you spend all that money on a firearm, OF COURSE you want to use the thing... :p

Tell them IPSC IPDA type shooting. A friend took you out and now you are hooked.

Better yet, tell them you already bought a gun and are using it. Even though it is legal because it is registered under his name, and you only use it when he goes shooting, it's a little inconvenient.... (I wouldn't know anyone who did this though ;) )

Yeah, they asked me the same question. I said "Target shooting..." and that was all it took. No biggie.

When they asked me I said I didnt really need it, just got it because the restricted license might go the same way as prohibited licenses....... then proceeded to make my 1st purchase a handgun ha

I was under the impression all the checking was done at the CFC in Miramichi NB?

How does the province of Alberta figure into it?

I was under the impression that the Alberta CFO is responsible for final approval as well as background checks. On the back near the bar code there it is stated that the card is issued by the Chief Firearms Officer of Alberta not the CFC.

Provincial CFO gives final approval, CFC does all the checks and then sends it to CFO.
I would not believe anyone at the CFC who says Alberta is responsible for the delay.
I asked to be put through to the Alberta CFO the same day my application was finished processing at the CFC, and was told that Alberta could take up to 90 days to approve, and they would not put me through to the Ab. CFO. So I called back an hour later and Ab. CFO office actually took only about 90 seconds to approve it over the phone.

That was my impression as well. Thanks for the clarification

Hmm, I guess I just got unlucky both times I called - both times they refused to let me talk to the Alberta CFO. I would have called more but the only chances I got were rain/snow days at my work.

I would definately call the CFC in Miramichi then and ask them what the delay is with the CFO in Alberta. Very calmly and politely explain the situation. A little bit of prompting here and there never hurts anything, and it pays to be forthright with any government licensing agency.
