Parker hale m82-m87-C3-C3A1 Rifles

You guys are all right, and I was wrong - it IS a Unertl x10, similar to those made for the USMC. However, those particular scopes were actually marked as such, and faking them is dependent on already having what originally cost $2500 around ten years ago...
My orignal caveat still hold good - for those who wish to shoot this scope at a PBR of less than 600m, it might be necessary t ohave the parallax changed - this is a factory job and not a use job.

As ever with equipment of this nature - especially on E*** - caveat emptor.

It's very good to ask the question here. A lot of items listed on auction sites like eBay are not correctly described. This scope is definitely NOT a C3 6x42 Kahles. If you have bid on this item thinking this pls withdraw your bid.

The scope appears to be an Unertl C3a1 however the description and small details are all wrong. The bracket for this scope is almost unattainable.

Ron

Seller had stated that he has been informed that this scope is an "Unertl Scope" made in the 1980's for the C3a1.

Thank you very much, the pictures are excellent.

I just reviewed the listing. The Seller states he was contacted and advised it is an "Unertl Scope" from the 1980's. I don't think you can export this out of Canada under the new trade rules. Anybody know?

Tim. The small lever you see on the elevation turret is the "fine adjustment". The maunual states "Elevation fine tune knob...+/- 3minutes with 1/2 minutes adjustment of clicks to compensate for weather, variation in ammunition and other conditions".

Hope this helps,

Ron

Nice to see it - it's an early one - right around the initial batch that was procurred when the 1st Gulf War was going on.

Those are the ones that will still have the screwed up reticles the John Unertl did with a paint brush, and spaced by eye mildots! He used to lay the teflon coating on the scopes in a big bubbling sauce pot on his kitchen stove - I'm not making this up either!

Cheers, Carl

Carl...what would it cost to upgrade this scope? Ron

You'd have to get it sent to US Optics in California, as they are the only ones that could carry this out.

I have no clue what they would charge for a reticle upgrade, but they would go through the whole thing and tell you if anything was wrong with it.

Owning one of these older ones is a crap shoot for quality, as compared to the new ones produced by US Optics.

This may very well be one of the ones that the USMC was destined to use - they did grab almost every one that was sitting waiting for the Cdn Forces - to use them on M40A1's destined for Iraq in the 1st Gulf War.

Be neat to get ahold of it though - it would be a cool addition to any Cdn collection.

Cheers, Carl

Carl...I noticed the scope is does not have the knurled focus ring on the eyepiece. What is the parallax modification you are referencing?

This scope is being sold from British Columbia...anybody know the Seller? Currently bidding approx US$3000.00 with 5 days to go.

Ron,

Funny you should mention the knurled focus ring - I saw that too. This scope is defective from my point of view - you will not be able to focus it at all - the focus ring is missing!

How you would focus it, would be to back off the lock cap at the back by unscrewing it and then use the ring that should be there, to focus the image.

The seller is going to have his hands full, trying to explain to somebody that just spent close to $3-4K on a scope that can't be visually focused! To be very blunt - it's a very expensive paperweight! Just trying to warn anyone who might want to be a bidder on it.

This is what it is supposed to look like with a properly in place focus ring - this is a Unertl 10X that I used to own:

Compared to the C3 Unertl on ebay right now:

The mod I was talking about is how US Optics now does/did the reticles in their version - with a photo-etched reticle that will never break/crumble!

Buyer beware - you'll be sorry if you buy this to only find out that it will never work right! Would involve a very costly repair with having to export it to US Optics and import it back to Canada.

Cheers, Carl

The seller is Harresons Surplus store on the outskirts of Victoria. Owner is ex military and generally speaking good to deal with

Harreson's Surplus Store Unertl 10X serial number 1134 sold for US$4050.00 plus tax if in Canada and insured delivery on Dec 30, 2010.

IMO the scope appeared to be original and very early as indicated by the sn and recticle configuration. The scope had a couple issues...a) scratch on the eyepiece lense and b) focus assembly missing....both repairable however expensive. Bidding was very competitive with about 1200 watching and 32 final bids. It would be very interesting to know the buyers location. Can't tell from eBay's "private" listing.

Why the price? Rarity...only have seen 2 others change hands...one in the USA and other in Canada. Certainly will hold value...just look at the No32 for No4T's and there are many more of these than C3 scopes.

Perhaps we'll see a few more come to market.
