PDW builds - Lets see them, and share results

I had an unfortunate incident a number of years ago when I first got my 11.5" Bushmaster. I let a guy shoot my gun and he pulled the trigger on it when I was roughly 2 feet away from the muzzle. The concussion and blast caused me instant vertigo and it felt like my head was comming apart. Needless to say, he didn't have an opportunity to fire a second round.

If I buy one of these PDW uppers, it'll have a SPEX or PWS on it. I wouldn't own one any other way.

Its something I want you to work on as well! Keep me posted, I'd pay good money for a friendly dragon!

Huh? You'd pay big money for something that was a failed experiment? Why?

If you want fireballs out of a short barrelled AR it's not that hard to achieve by using slow burning rifle powders like Varget and leaving the flash hider off the rifle. I'm sure you're already are aware of this.

Here's a little KAC PDW goofness to brighten up your day:

Unfortunately, most of us will have to settle on the airsoft version. Ha!

We shot the 6x38 PDW and 300 Whisper PDW side by side today for the first time.

The 6x38 has more bang and flash but less felt recoil. The Whisper, shooting a 110gr bullet has def more oomph to it but then it is a much larger bullet at roughly the same velocity.

I think the Whisper is my favourite. Coupled with its ability to fling huge subsonics downrange with hardly any noise, it is so much more useful and interesting.

I built a muzzle device that acts like a flash enhancer. Talk about awsome. It produces a big bright basketball size flame with every shot. In full auto it is something that has to be experienced. :)

LOL - reminds me of running my 7.5 NEA bbl with the NEA hybrid brake. In addition to being pelted in the face and hands with still-combusting rifle powder, the muzzle flash flaming out the side of the hybrid was very full-auto M60-like.

loud, LOUD, LOUD!

I was at an outdoor range and scared two shooters over to another set of lanes. It sounds like a Barrett .50 going off just from the report bouncing off the wooden muzzle rise limiter plates on the firing line. Scray - and kinda cool too. I would NOT shoot a braked 7.5 without good, solid ear protection. Quality muffs, not inserts.

I wish I had taken video...

I did some testing on a Dlask A6 Muzzle Brake a few months ago. It's an excellently designed muzzle brake, the rifle literally doesn't move when you shoot it. The blast and flash from a 10.25" barrel were interesting to say the least.:D Click on the photo below for a couple stills I extracted from a video I did.

You won't get this type of blast or flash from rifle with longer barrels.:D

Troy, for the most part people are shooting the same ammo they'd shoot through a regular carbine or rifle to keep the logistics as simple as possible. Generally speaking, most civilian users are not all that concerned with the military use and requirements of the PDW, so as long as the round is functional and reasonably accurate, then that's what most of us would care about. Afterall, these are just range toys for the majority of us. Punching paper is our priority - not killing someone.

If you placed genuine importance on the purpose a PDW as a military weapon then I guess you could justify a specific round specially tailored for a PDW's unique performance criteria. You'd have to have the time, energy, and effort to use faster burning powders and possibly different bullets within the design parameters of a pistol based gas system. That's a lot of work for most of us. Not something I would want to HAVE to do.

I guess it all depends on your perspective. For my purposes, one common round between platforms is far more desireable than worrying about something that ultimately doesn't matter (at to least my way of thinking).
