Surprisingly few years later, the whole concept of "a few well-armed lads in a wee truck" evolved into this.

emits infrared light. the commander and gunner have infrared sights which picks up said light and they thus see the battlefield and targets clearly. This was the greatest thing in the world UNTIL the enemy ALSO got sights that picked up infrared. Quickly became a NONO.
I saw that very house on June 1 when we where driving the GPWs and Schwimmwagen after disembarking from the ferry at Ouistreham and driving to the rental house between Omaha (just one mile West of Point Du Hoc) and Utah. Just got back UK and France this afternoon so pics will follow. I had the VERY best jeep and schwimm driving of my life over the past two weeks. This house on Juno Beach was the first structure liberated in France, and it was done by Canadians.

Saw a story about this place on Global News tonight. The owner was very young when the war came to his house, but holds all Canadians, his first visitors especially, in very high regard. One "old original" signed his guest book last year - "Sorry I threw grenades in your cellar..."

Sorry, mate - no Intersmashables in uniform with these gentlemen. Unless you meant a Canadian truck in British service with Kiwi operators, and so very international indeed. . View attachment 12493View attachment 12494
Like I said, "International truck". Compare the lines around the nose of the hood. If it isn't a Cornbinder, bring me some ketchup and I'll eat it!![]()

They are remarkably similar, it's a fact, but I'm certain that's a Chevrolet in the IWM. Here's a closeup of the front of the very truck we're discussing:

If you squint, you can pick out "Che..." on the starboard side of her nose.
Ketchup en route via Canada Post. Hope your current diet is short on iron...![]()
It is a very bright spot light. An ir filter is used but without the filter it is used as an ordinary search light. I know as I have been on the receiving end. Bright enough to burn out the back of your eyeballs.
^ psst, Dan, its a kubel. There was some hand wringing about rolling about Normandy in German vehicle by the vocal minority but trust me after seeing a couple thousand jeeps a kubel or schwimmer is a breath of frest air to see. The groups 166 attracted people like seagulls to fries in a KFC parking lot. Anyways the Belgian owner of the kubel attends various events and its a case of changing up the vehicles look abit, ala the movie Monument Men.
