Picture of the day

My daughter SOOOO wants to re-create this photo. She's got the looks (from her mother...and she really does look a little like Ronnie) and I'm sure I can scrounge up a Bren....

After a long, hard day at the armaments factory...

The Canadian version of 'Rosy the Riveter'...

"Ronnie the Bren Gun Girl"

To me, the "Ronnie" stuff is the among the greatest Canadian photo series ever done. Yes, its war effort material, but a great photograph can talk, and these don't stop talking.

There was a time when Canada was populated by men who would lay down their lives for what they believe in and women who would step up and do whatever needed to be done to support that. Today we have a society of avoiders, excuse makers, know it all and offended by it alls. They wont put their own neck on the line but will wait for better people to and then second guess their decisions to no end.

Front armour: For Germany's victory and honour.

Above the track it rhymes in German: Build tanks, trust in the Fuhrer, beat the enemy, so are the sons, of Ostmark Gauen.

Turret: To blurry to read it all.

Actual German rhyme above track: Panzer Bauen, auf den führer vertrauen, die feinde verhauen, so sind die söhne, aus Ostmark gauen.

Tank factory in Austria would be my guess. The nazis called Austria Ostmark.
