Since incorporated into the Queen's Royal Lancers. Here we see a lad in the employ of HRH having a fine time in Beautiful Asscrackistan. Certainly not SS:

Could have been brothers.

Yes -- of course -- I can see the resemblance ... other than the different noses, different lower eye lids, different lower lip and different ear positions...(and possibly different foreheads) :)

As well as advocating the complete extermination of the Plains Indians and the Buffalo herds that fed them, supplied thousands of rounds of .45 govt. rounds to anybody that wanted to shoot either just for sport from a train, horse, or on foot. Almost worked on both accounts until Grant was ousted from the presidency and the central military war regime lost their "power".

12 August 2000, the Project 949A Antey (NATO Oscar II) class nuclear powered cruise missile submarine Kursk (K-141) is lost with all hands.

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

So, you're the German Army. It's 1943. You realize there are plenty of better options for your tankers than sending them out in the PzKw. I or II to be shot up by any old verdammt Ivan with an ATR, but you have tons of the chassis sitting around. What the hell do you do with them?

You build the Teutonic version of the Universal Carrier. This is the Panzerkampfwagen I ohne Aufbau:

Apparently, a lot of these tired old girls went off to tank driver school, where insensitive little Dieters ground their gears down to nubs and probably raced them when Herr Instruktor wasn't watching:

Folks think of "child soldiers" as a modern and primarily African issue, but kids have long gone to fight.

Léon Merdjian was the youngest soldier of the French Legion fighting with the Germans (Légion des volontaires français contre le bolchévisme - LVF). He belonged to 638.Infantry Regiment (Infanterie-Regiment 638, Französischer). In this photo he appears alongside his comrades outside the village of Golovkova near Moscow on Dec 9, 1941. Merdjian and Léon Vatchnadzé, also 15 and volunteer, were Georgian emigres to France.

Meanwhile, three hundred yards to the east, hiding behind a brushpile and wishing he had a smoke, this guy:

We in the West have a tendency to get caught up in the primarily American belief that "we won the war". I know I'm not saying anything here that most of you don't already know, but the Soviets won the war. The rest of the allied nations contributed, in varying degrees, to the final victory. But the Soviets won the thing. They did it by massive, often unnecessary, sacrifice and because failure was never an option. You fight and win or we all die, the country is destroyed, its people killed en masse, your village burned, everyone in it wiped out. You fight, and the Commisar and the Sargeant could not possibly care less that you're twelve years old.

I don't hate much, but on the very short list of things I cant feckin' stand is communism, front and center. That being said, one of the greatest contributions it ever made was the defeat of Hitler in the East.

Also technically a "child soldier " at the time of his enlistment (he was 15 and he and his sister falsified documents about his age - I doubt the recruiter cared or looked closely at the documents ).

In WWI, as many as 250,000 underage soldiers fought in the British army (not including those who fought among the colonial forces). It wasn't until late in thewar that there was much effort put into curtailing the practice of underage recruitment, and some of the child soldiers already in the trenches were sent home - but only if their parents could provide documented proof of their age, whic was challenging in an age when birth certificates were rare.

... to be replaced by the continued Stalinist regime of purges, gulags, torture and imprisonment. Pot-kettle-black The massive support from the Allies also played a role, coupled with the limitless man power of the USSR.

I humbly don't agree with that sentiment...Very true that the Russians bore the brunt of the "human" hardship in defeating the Germans but if it weren't for the "lend lease" program from the Americans both Russia and the British Iles would have been overrun in due course by Hitler. No matter how much "resolve" the Russians had, without US planes and artillery and most importantly the supply of raw materials to start their own arms, munitions and tank factories.
