Powder prices going up.

Most I have paid for powder is $55 per lb. Going to hurt when I need to resupply a couple of powders.
Uhhh... The last few years prices have been coming DOWN, not going up? Prices in 2024 were typically lower than they were in 2021/22.
Not Blackhorn 209, that stuff is black gold now at $300/lb retail.
Used to be $49/10oz now its $150/8oz. Sneakily made the container smaller while marking it up 300%

The problem is when the ma and pa shops bought that powder at inflated pricing, say the last year or so, they are still using the same % mark up.

Many small shops have cheaper powder because it is either older stock, that they bought for less so can still sell for less, or bought just recently and have an in between price point. They don't re price all their stock to current prices, but price off their buying price at a % point. Simple business practice model here.

Our local Can tire has IMR 4227 sitting at $98 a pound, because they bought a bunch when the price was high, and now they are sitting on a bunch of it because no one wants to pay that price. Can get same stuff $68/ pound elsewhere.
I created and ran one of the largest Canadian Tire Pro Shops in Western Canada for close to four years. My dealer was a fellow who liked to go big or go home. He gave me carte blanche to have over 800 firearms and over one million dollars in ammunition on the shelves. We created a 3.2 million dollar a year gun shop. He ended up even richer than he started!

I had to retire in March of last year for medical reasons, and the Cranbrook, BC CT store also changed dealer ownership. Unfortunately, all our hard work is slowly being eroded by poor ownership decisions, and now with no current staff knowledge.

Corporate CT has recently changed the rules in how locally owned stores do business. They no longer allow buying from various venders with the best selection and lower prices. CT Corporate is now forcing dealers to buy from equity, which means in house Corporate venders only. It's not the venders who are gouging the wholesale prices, it's CT Corporate greed. They have increased retail pricing approximately 35%-40% over the last eight months. And even though they still buy at a lower wholesale discount due to volume buying, they increase the inventory cost on paper to make it look like they now pay more for these goods. I'm sure there is a technical term for this Tom-Foolery, but this is now the price you pay at your local CT store.

There are still some dealers who like to circumvent these bull-$hit rules, but they are few and far between.......:(

This is why one sees absolute ridiculous retail asking prices at CT stores across Canada now.

The Cranbrook CT Pro Shop is now more expensive than our local gun shop who used to gouge the general public for close to 30 years. They had the monopoly on the hunting industry until we opened the Pro Shop. This LGS ended up for sale and almost went out of business. Well apparently it never sold and a younger family member now runs it. It seems to be going fairly well, and the prices are not as bad as the CT Pro Shop.

Interesting how things go full circle when their is a new Sheriff in town, so to speak.....:)

My point is, although manufactures cost of products has risen, it usually is company greed that causes inflation to the enth degree....:(

Groceries, gas, rent, mortgage costs are sky-rocketing! And to what point? When only the rich can buy/own a vehicle, or put food on the table?

Well we all know now what the dictator meant by stating, "you will own nothing and be happy". Most folks do not understand that this was the plan all along. Starve the people out into submission, and do not forget to take their guns as well. It's tough to enslave the population when they have guns to protect themselves from tyranny......:(

The greed is shooting themselves in the foot so to speak.

Still some reasonable dealers out there, and in this day and age I just can't see how any store that's way out of line on pricing is going to make money.

When it's way out of hand, I'll just leave it. I can substitute different powders, bullets, primers, etc. I'm never run myself "out" of anything and can use different guns too. If I have to order it online or wait a bit, it's not the end of the world.

When it's high, but I'm antsy, well now I might buy one, instead of two, and then I'm making a mental note to shop elsewhere.

Not too hard to see how that'd affect stock movement I'd think...

As for CT, I've seen the price on 9.3x62 PPU go from $37 which is about $5 over what the components cost to $55 over a year! This is all way past post plandemic pricing too.

That news was announced like 6 months ago.

Tesro has Viht powder at surprisingly low prices in the 8lb jugs. It makes Hodgdon powder look like a rip off.
Yup, Vit powders seem like a bargain these days. I stocked up recently and the prices were reasonable compared to other options.

Some of their powders are awesome too, great accuracy potential / consistency and seem to run WAY cleaner.

why even reload.....you cant take your guns out to shoot them anyways, thanks to this horrible government ?.
i have nothing I can go to the range with anymore.

I’m glad I’ve got my Savage ML2 Smokeless and about 6 lbs of 5744. I got that powder for $25 per pound when wholesale sports closed their doors. Triple seven pellets in my TC muzzle loader do the job as well. Blackthorn 209 is great but I’d rather practice with my muzzleloaders than shoot a few rounds a year because it’ll cost me $6 per round, haha.

Remember, our dollar is flat as piss on a plate lately.
Yes the post you quoted and replied to was from Jan 2024. I was referring to 2022 to 2024 Hodgdon prices at that time. I'm guessing this year's Hodgdon price increases will really be shocking.

H1K and Retumbo prices have increased 20% to 25% per pound since Jan 2024.

Maybe that's what's happening, but Tom Higginson and Ganderite used to purchase directly from the factories here in Canada. I know Tom had a working arrangement with Hodgdon's.

I was never able to purchase from Canadian manufacturers and frankly didn't really try because I could purchase the "surplus" commercial and Milspec powders in the US much cheaper than I could here.

Another factor for me was Mr Higginson would send me powders and other components to help develop loads for his printed-out sheets which he packed with each purchase.

When he sent me the powders, he would include lot numbers, manufacturer and which commercial loader the powder was to be sent to, with a burn rate and original base powder to start the loads with. Tom was a good guy, knew a lot about powders and burn rates. I miss him. Cancer took him as well. I did manage to speak with him a few months before he passed and we said our goodbyes.

world economic form
the great reset
it's on everything
pre covid camp bells soup 79 cents a can now 2.19 and it's a smaller can
this will not end soon
Yup prices have gone up substantially for sure on everything, got to watch the sales and buy then, they are still out there just have to look, I just picked up Campbells soup by the case of 12, 1 case mushroom, 1 case tomato $8.99 / case 0.75 per can

I was just looking to see if any Enduron powders, which were made in Canada are available.

I couldn't find any in stock anywhere I looked in Canada but Hodgdons still has it available on their site, out of the US for $44/pound and offer both 1 pound and 8 pound jugs.

They don't say how much is available or where it's shipped from.

It's good powder, a bit slower than most 4350 types but definitely temperature stable.
