Range Idiots

You shoot range picked brass

I have lots of rifle brass that has been shot only seven or eight times with heavy loads, wanna buy it as well :D

45 ACP brass will last forever if you treat it right. Some people have been shooting the same cases since the sixties, the headstamp is gone. If the brass is unsafe, it won't hold a primer or will have cracks or splits. Rifle brass is a completely different ball game.

What bullets you guy's using in your .260's?

95 grain Vmax and 107 gr Sierra HPBT, both over Varget

Dave, This is more common than you think... If you've bought cheap lead ammo in the last year for your pistol, chances are you've shot range picked brass...

I know it is, I just dont do it. I love watching the people at the range picking up the brass out of the dirt. It reminds me of glueing a loonie to the ground :D

If you've bought cheap lead ammo in the last year for your pistol

Not me either.

Yeah, I've shot a few matches where the scroungers were out in full force after:D Funny as hell. The 223 brass people were allmost fighting over...

ahhhh, its that time of year. snow is melting and the range is seeing some activity here

today, I was out there with a friend trying out his new Sako 75 260 Remington, and I had my 260, and took my 8mm Mag out to try for the first time as well.

an hour or so later a car shows up with two guys. one had a 340 Wby Mag with a brake, and the other had a 300 Ultra Mag. After a bit of chest beating and such they set up their targets at 100 meters and got set up, resting their rifles on a sandbag in the front and nothing in the rear.

Mr 340 Wby fires and blows dust and s**t everywhere after every shot. Lucky me I am at the bench next to him. :puke: His groups werent bad, basketball size. He brags about how his ammo costs $95 a box and says he'd love to come out shooting more but cant afford it

Mr 300 Ultra is torching off 180 gr Scirrocos one after another. First five shots at 100 meters didnt touch the 20x20" paper so he backs to 20 meters and five shots later he gets it +4" high, where his buddy told him to have it so it will be zero at 100. :runaway: Well, you guessed it his first three shots go about two feet high. Five shots later he is on the paper. Mr 340 Wby is out of ammo (probably a good thing) and spotting his shots. After every shot Mr 300 ultra would adjust his scope, tap his scope tube with his knuckle, and fire again. Adjust, tap, fire, repeat. He went through almost two boxes in 30 minutes before he called it "good". He got a shot that landed +2" high and close to perfect windage.

Its funny but pathetic at the same time.

Big gun does NOT mean big balls or big brains... in most cases it other way around....

Dig out all your old copper. Good scrap price now and then more beer/ammo.

Gun store owner friend of mine built excellent indoor range then rented it to local cops. A few dozen odd bullet holes in strange places and one thru a foot stopped that in a hurry and now they practice in a old gravel pit open to a busy road. Don't go by there on Thursdays anymore with my 50000 litre fuel truck.

............Dave, i did know of a few people that would borrow the key from members and use the facility without being a member.
e

This happens occasionally as well, but not many would be willing to loan their key to someone who they know is going to shoot up the benches, collumns, and other stuff , with a pistol.
I really think it was a member that did it, and fully strive to make it socially unacceptable to partake in this kind of stunt.

Plus, anyone caught will be prosecuted to thee fullest extent of the law and that means NEVER legally owning firearms again.
The kicker to this loaning of keys thing is I reported no less than 4 groups that I found to loaning keys in years past, all were highly paid tradesmen.
We're talking 100K plus per year guys, yet they would chip in to buy a $70
(at the time) membership.

Lottsa pride goin' on there.....

.................yup my thoughts exactly.

The worst are some of the guys who know it all, and feel it is their job to police the range.
One year at the range out by Spruce Grove, I came to the line next to a range hog, all by himself. I did not say a word as I set up several tables away from him. He demanded to see my pass. I cannot believe how many assholz who are attracted to the the firearms community.

We call those guys Range Nazis (One reason I'm out of the Spruce Grove G club forever) & for the pricks that the gun community attracts, you are correct since by experience it seems to be a clash or bashout between ''A'' types & lots of small man syndromes who think the world revolves around them but in return try to recruit new people under their terms..

Welcome to the gun community man!

Generally our range isn't too bad.The couple of things that bug me are are guys who shot other peoples targets.I ussually put up one at 50m,it's the only C-Tire cheapy, to practice with the 22.It never fails to have 30 caliber holes close to the center. The other one is the guy who covers the whole board with his targets. We have only one board up at 300yds,I walked out to find completely covered.Well,I guessed some one left his targets up,so I set up my single on top of the most used ones. It really helped his load development.
