ahhhh, its that time of year. snow is melting and the range is seeing some activity here
today, I was out there with a friend trying out his new Sako 75 260 Remington, and I had my 260, and took my 8mm Mag out to try for the first time as well.
an hour or so later a car shows up with two guys. one had a 340 Wby Mag with a brake, and the other had a 300 Ultra Mag. After a bit of chest beating and such they set up their targets at 100 meters and got set up, resting their rifles on a sandbag in the front and nothing in the rear.
Mr 340 Wby fires and blows dust and s**t everywhere after every shot. Lucky me I am at the bench next to him.

His groups werent bad, basketball size. He brags about how his ammo costs $95 a box and says he'd love to come out shooting more but cant afford it
Mr 300 Ultra is torching off 180 gr Scirrocos one after another. First five shots at 100 meters didnt touch the 20x20" paper so he backs to 20 meters and five shots later he gets it +4" high, where his buddy told him to have it so it will be zero at 100.

Well, you guessed it his first three shots go about two feet high. Five shots later he is on the paper. Mr 340 Wby is out of ammo (probably a good thing) and spotting his shots. After every shot Mr 300 ultra would adjust his scope, tap his scope tube with his knuckle, and fire again. Adjust, tap, fire, repeat. He went through almost two boxes in 30 minutes before he called it "good". He got a shot that landed +2" high and close to perfect windage.
Its funny but pathetic at the same time.
