Reimagining the Rook rifle, an all Canadian custom 3.75lb 5.6x50 Magnum

Todbartell that’s hugely helpful, appreciate it, enjoying the .375 too

Sharp shooter I just rung oil, wet sand it with oil up to 1500 grit. That’s excessive but turns out beautifully and plugs all the pores off. Then apply conventional rag buffed coats.

ForealBoreal sold her, to a member here I believe (met through another medium).

That she is. :) I’ll play with it at 27” and decide whether to carbine it maybe next season, get a good feel for what the extra 7-8” of barrel is giving me in field terms. I want the ultralight reach so keeping it long for now, but can’t help look at this thing with a book over the last 8” or barrel and get giddy at how it looks like a gorgeous .22 that beats .223s handily and encroaches on .a 22-250.

It’s a little awkward to show and try and explain as it looks like so little progress, but there has been at least eight more hours detail shaping by hand put in. The rough form happens quick but the final form takes forever, fortunately in my day job I have to sit in a helicopter in the middle of nowhere waiting for people. Good use of that time.

Take full length broadside pics with a book over the muzzle end at 21", 23", 25", 27"... and then informally poll us...

I am being a little self-serving in this request... I just want to see what it looks like at those lengths... ;)

Coming together beautifully, no surprise there though. What is the OAL with the current barrel configuration?

Thanks man, only have the stock with me out flying but about 42” presently. Will look at options for a take down butt, ideally it’d have a flip latch or something quick with hooks or a collet that grabs a stud on the receiver. That’s probably a next year part of the project, if at all, but that’d be the ultimate. Takedown would be handy as I’m sure this thing will gather a lot of flight time in the floatplane.
