Like most people, I like the flexibility the variables add to the game.
I've got a Leupold 6x. PM me if you really think that's the way to go...
Have you had problems with it close up, like 100 yard or less? What objective diameter?

How far out has 6x stopped being strong enough for big game for ya, Suther?
Long story short, one of these had a lot more appeal than a current production 700 does, and yknow...we're kinda gun nutz.
If you had to pick a scope out for a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle in 280 Rem, what would you go with?
I'm tempted to say Leupold FX-III, 6x36 or 6x42 but more opinions are always informative.
I have a custom 700 MR here in 257R. I topped it with a VXIII 2.5-8 B&C years ago.
I switched it out to a Leupold 4x fixed and a VXII 3-9 and both times went back to the 2.5-8.
I've always hunted big game with a 3-9x, so I couldn't really say. 200yds plus and I'm cranking it to 9x though, and by 300yds I'm feeling like I could use a bit more (been considering switching to a 4-12x but I'd want to get something with better glass than what I'm currently using and I don't have the budget for that right now).
I figured! Just wanted to kinda see if this is coming from a hunting actual use perspective, or an "i've read/heard" perspective when the advice is given out lol.

The 2.5-8x is a good scope; re Joel’s earlier question I find the glass on the vx-iii models to be pretty darn similar to vx freedoms. YMMV I’m no long range stud or big game hunting expert.

2.5x Leupold ultralight is worth a look. I keep selling and buying them, they suck for load development but great for hunting
Hey, I'm trying to sell the scope to this dude lol

M1008 I’m talking about the 30mm model, literally said the 1 inch would be a better option. Not looking for a pissing match
Bunch on nuances between the fixed Leupolds in terms of eye relief and scope tube length if that’s going to be important depending on your mounts/rings
Use Talley lightweights and flip them “forward”? The 2.5x has a lot of eye relief
