Remington 7600 tips/advice

How have you made out with the MambaMags? Or the any mags with the 7600? Do you know if the they are still available, or are there any other viable 10 rounders out there for the 7600 in 308?

Also, any issues running 7.62x51 NATO surplus rounds in the 7600?

Any break downs since you've been working this rifle?

Cheers!

Here's how it turned out.

Sweet, I like how this turned out. Well done.

It works fine, fast or slow. The cartridge angle looks like it would be to low/flat to feed reliably but it works fine.

I think I bought the Mambamag direct from the manufacturer. Last time I looked they were out if stock.

I prefer the carbine with the 4 round mags, it carries and balances better and makes the carbine look fuddish which I like for this build.

If I take off the Vortex flash hider I screw on a thread protector and it becomes a little shorter and more fuddish ss well. I didn't see much muzzle flash with the Vortex and Chinese ball. The Vortexs are generally rated well for 5.56, not sure how they are with .308.

Why? It was considered a Big Gun before the Internet when Moose and Grizzly Tags were over the counter.

I know .... Just personal preference for me. I've never had any success with a 270 so never did bond to it. The 308, 30-06, 280 and 7x57 are all cartridges I've used on game with results. See how I avoid the word "luck". :)

A gun like that (I have one similar in 30-06) would not be a longer range gun so heavies (even RNs) would work fine.

The odd one in 6.5x55 seems to pop up in the Swedish imports, no idea if they were factory or not.

The issue with a 270 is that it isn't going to perform worth a dang in an 18.5" barrel. Maybe I'm out to lunch on this and somebody will be along to correct me, but I've never seen any short barreled 270's. Short barreled 308's are quite common.

Added a cheap IR laser, green laser and 1000 lumen white light.

The IR laser works and is bright in my PVS14.

The white light is brighter with a smaller more intense beam than my 900 lumen PD35 which is generally considered a "floody" light.

The tape switch seems to connect solidly and has on off and momentary. It came with a small strip of velcro.

I'm going to mount it tonight on my Rem 7600.

The two lasers are not slaved so I plan to zero the green parallel to the bore and then zero the IR laser parallel to the green. My objective is to hit dinner plates out to 50 yards with the IR laser so parallel zero should work.

At night outdoors the green laser is easily visible to 100 yards. Through the PVS14 the IR laser is very bright and still bright on a target 600 yards out. It was a light scotch mist which made the IR beam visible on the way to target. It does not look safe for eyes so care should be used when using it.

It came with a charged 18650 and charger. I have around 60 good scavenged 18650s as I've gone with this format for my lights.

The case and pic mount are surprisingly good. They are aluminum, not plastic.

Until I shoot it and see if it holds any kind of a zero I'll hold off on judgement but I gotta say that for airsoft chinesium that cost less than $175 delivered to my door in 8 days, I'm impressed.

Geo What's the play in that forend mount setup at 100 yards? I'd guess it would over 4 feet....

A light on the forend pump makes sense but it would not be my third choice for a sighting device..... :)

I'll check it tonight. I think it'll be like a foot.

But lasers especially IR lasers with NODs are short range tools ie. for me under 25 yards so even with the forend play I will be able to hit the dinner plate in the dark.

I was thinking the same thing, good for point and shoot distances where you could probably make a hit from the hip instinctively without aiming,

I've had pistol mounted lasers that were not rock solid on the rail and it's surprsing how much deviation there is with a small amount of play, easily a foot side to side at less then 50 yards.

I'd be surprised if a typical very loose by comparison 7600 forend was less then 4 feet at 100 yards, I'd guess you could flex it back and forth and cover close to 4 feet at 25 yards.

At 70 yards I can flex it 1 foot left and one foot right.

If I don't twist the forend I think that both the green and IR lasers will alliw me to hit the dinner plate out 50 yards. Especially with the rifle shouldered, head up. Not sure about from the hip.

Right on, that sounds like a bit over three foot spread at 100yards.
