That model came out in .308 in the early 70's. Al Mirdoch a Calgary benchrest shooter bought the first one that came in to Barotto Sports. I glassed bedded it, worked the trigger and recrowned it. In a registered shoot at Namaka Benchrest Club east of Calgary Al shot a 5 shot group at 100 yards (using a 6 power scope) that measured close to 1/16 of an inch center to center. It was just one hole. The only way you knew it was five shots is because a moving backer was behind the target.Remington BDL factory heavy barrel 'Varmint' rifle in .308 Win.

RCBS improved was a different shoulder angle and neck length than an Ackley Improved. I don't actually remember the angle anymore, but I'm sure you could Google it easy enough. Back in the day there were a lot of variations, but RCBS, AI and Gibbs were the ones i saw most often. - danI’ve got 2 - the laminate is an older 700 with a custom 338-06 barrel. The chambering stamped on the barrel is 338 rcbs improved, can’t find any documentation for that round, I fireform 30-06 brass and neck size only with 338WM dies. Sends 200gr at 2950fps.
The 2nd is a bdl in 17Rem. I was using it quite a bit and put the sticky tape on to protect the wood cuz it’s pristine. Excellent for sniping ravens, as long as its dead-calmView attachment 910010View attachment 910011
