Back in the late spring, these guns came on the market and the dealers couldn't keep up with the sales.
Soon after, folks noticed manufacturing flaws like rear sight dovetails cut on an angle and some sloppy finishing/fit issues.
The last I recall, several CGN members had contacted the Canadian repair depot in Quebec and they were instructed to return them for repair.

I have a few questions:
Did Ruger make good on the warranty?
Did you have to send the whole gun and what came with it or just the barrel?
Are you happy with the outcome?

I bought one of the ones with the angled dovetail, and while it doesn't REALLY bug me, if I can get it fixed at little or no cost, why not?

Thanks,
Geoff B

I sent my 10-22 TD to the warranty repair center in Quebec at the beginning of October to get the crooked sight issue repaired and got it back on Nov 12 with a new barrel. I am not very impressed with the work that was done. It looks like the new barrel was scrubbed with scotchbrite or steel wool around the rear sight area and there is a dent in the barrel where the repair person hit it with a punch when installing the rear sight into the dovetail groove. The front sight is pretty beat up where the guy pounded it out and back in with what was obviously a steel punch. You would think he would at least use soft brass punches. Maybe I'm too fussy but I am a tradesman and repair peoples property every day and I'd be embarrassed to admit it if this was my work.

I wish I had decided to just put up with the crooked sight now.

Ruger repair center should be ashamed .. Write the President of Ruger .. Seriously ... Repost this in the Ruger Fourm ( no one can read this form without joining it .. Bit sad ) Direct the Pres of Ruger to the post. There is more power in the pen and public opinion than all the AR's members own here .. (not to many here own swords)

Try it .. You lose nothing . And you have your say ...

When a gun shop without pull was attempting to get me a Glock21c once , I got fed up with the wait and called the VP of Glock responsible for Canadian sales .. Got my glock in a week . Got something else .. A glock 21c with many 0's in the serial number .. Obviously one they would normally hold out for a gift ?. If glock cared enough to act at a time when they owned the market and supply lines were taxed, I bet Ruger is just as concerned ...

Edit 12/29/2012 .. Should of said X's in the serial number to be more accurate ..

A proffesional shop would/should have had a site pushing tool to use for removing and installing sights without the the risk of punch marks.
Total crapp warrenty job you received there, and like others said, i would go straight to Ruger with your pics and story.
I am sure they would not approve of that POS job.

Ruger Canadian warrantee..............I "dealt" with Location Snapshot several years ago on a repair issue...............lousy service........couldn't get them to answer some of my emails.........I finally bought the needed parts from Western Gun Parts..........hope I never have to deal with this Quebec outfit again.........

Yesterday was the first time I had taken the rifle out of the case since I got it back and had a good look at it in good light. Needless to say I was a bit shocked. I sent an email to the Warranty Administrator (Carole Pitre) at Snapshots with a link to my pictures on Photobucket. Even though I sent the email at 5:30 PM mountain time she responded to it alomost immediately. I have no complaints about the communications I've had dealing with Snapsots, Carole has always responded promptly. She then emailed the Armourer responsible for the repair and his story is that the barrels come complete from Ruger and that's the way it came from them. I'm not sure why he would send a part that looked like that to a customer, but that's for Carole to find out. She has promised to look into the matter and get back to me so I'm going to give Snapshots a chance to make it right before I do anything else. I'll keep you posted.

It can't get any worse than it already is. My barrel is mushroomed and takes alot of effort to take apart. Cleaning and lubing it does not help.

I highly doubt that abortion of a repair job came that way from Ruger, to the armorer, to the dealer, and then you. That was done by a very very poor smith, not at the Ruger factory.

I need to send my takedown in for repair. Did you guys ship it with the backpack?

Yes I sent the rifle back to them with everything it came with in the original box, as they requested. I had to pay for the shipping which also did not make me happy. I know that in the States, Ruger pays for shipping both ways. If the barrel really does come completely assembled they should have just sent me the new barrel instead of making me send the entire gun to them. I also had the problem you describe with the breech end of the barrel being poorly heat treated and getting mushroomed. I probably would not have bothered getting it repaired if it had just been the sight issue.

Well, I've exchchanged a couple of emails with Snapshots and the verdict is "If you are not satisfied with this repair, please return your 10/22 to use and we will look at it."
Of course the shipping will be at my expense again.($35). Carole said it would be OK to just send the barrel to reduce the shipping cost. I'm not sure I want to send it back to them. The only option I can think of is to remove the sights my self and polish the barrel to a high shine or glass bead it to a dull finish. I'm going to think on it.

I will return it. Let them do it right. Otherwise, send an email to Ruger, demand a full refund including shipping charges.

I have decided not to send the rifle back to Snapshots, I don't want to give those guys a chance to screw it up even worse. I refuse to pay for shipping again so I guess I'm on my own. I used my polishing wheel and fine jewelers polishing compound to polish the barrel and remove as much of the carnage as possible. The divot near the rear sight is still visible but not obvious anymore. I also spent some effort polishing the front sight area. I managed to removed both sights and re-install them without making a mess of it, not sure why their expert armourer couldn't. The pictures make it look kind of blotchy but in normal light without the flash it looks great (except for the divot). I would like to send an email to the Ruger head office in the States but I can't find an email address. If anyone know how to contact them by email let me know.
