Ruger 10/22 Takedown Warranty Results

This is not the first negative report Ruger has gotten about Snapshot.
Snapshot was hard to deal with via email. Not because of lack or response which was pretty good for the most part... it was the back and forth nature of the emails where some questions are answered but others ignored and it takes for ever just to figure out the part that needs to be ordered!
Carole seemed nice when I spoke with here but there is a dysfunctional vibe coming from that place.

I will give an update when I get it back and run a few hundred rounds through it to make sure it's not going to slam fire again. I'll probably get a Kidd extractor for it since it had lots of stovepie problems.

if it's still a jamomatic I'm gonna get rid of it and never buy another Ruger product again. I was never a huge Ruger fan though I owned quite a few in the past but never kept any of them. to me they were just OK...nothing spectacular.

but I shot my friend's vintage Ruger 10/22 and it's 100% reliable, feeds everything.....it's a tack driver. bone stock except for the Choate stock. also I wanted a takedown version

but what I got turned out to be a turd. after hearing so many stories about Ruger 10/22 reliability I was really disappointed I couldn't even get through a single magazine with no jams. I thought maybe it just needed to be worn in, but the problems just got worse. kept getting double shots with one trigger pull. then it blew up out of battery

I have a bunch of other threads in the rimfire section and people giving me advice. I just stumbled onto this thread by searching about Location Snapshots in Quebec

I'd be interested to hear how your repairs go grandmasterp.

I don't think they care too much about warranty repairs they do for Ruger

and I haven't heard anyone say anything good about them. I wonder if they're on Gunnutz and read the negative posts about them.

they have a Facbook page, but I'm not on Facebook

I'm feeling a little nervous about how it's gonna come back. it can't get any worse than it was.....but I can't get over the feeling that my gun is gonna sit on a shelf somewhere and then sent back to me just the same as before

I sent my 10-22 TD to the warranty repair center in Quebec at the beginning of October to get the crooked sight issue repaired and got it back on Nov 12 with a new barrel. I am not very impressed with the work that was done. It looks like the new barrel was scrubbed with scotchbrite or steel wool around the rear sight area and there is a dent in the barrel where the repair person hit it with a punch when installing the rear sight into the dovetail groove. The front sight is pretty beat up where the guy pounded it out and back in with what was obviously a steel punch. You would think he would at least use soft brass punches. Maybe I'm too fussy but I am a tradesman and repair peoples property every day and I'd be embarrassed to admit it if this was my work.

I wish I had decided to just put up with the crooked sight now.

! You have saved me from making a bad purchase. Never quite trusted Ruger anyway, not after the original Mr R sold out gun owners to the US congress.

latest response from Location Snap Shots.....

We had problems with internet today so I am responding your e-mail. Your gun was received on Aug. 14 and has not been looked at. As soon as we can look at your gun, we will

Sounds like Ruger's had their chance...does Savage make a .22 takedown?

Not that I need one, the Browning SA .22 is quite satisfactory. ;)

3 weeks?......it's been 2 weeks and they haven't even looked at it yet

I'd like to get a replacement or a full refund from Ruger. I don't trust Snap Shots or their work. I've written and emailed Ruger about this

I know this is an old thread but to help ease grandmasterp I did end up sending my takedown in. I think they just ended up swapping the barrel out. The rest of my rifle was original when I got it back. Total of 3 weeks from the time I mailed it to when I got it back. Works great now and haven't had any issues. Cycles even the junk ammo.

it is Sept 2nd and still nobody has looked at the gun

Ruger refuses to replace the 10/22 and insists on letting Snap Shots repair it.....if they get around to it

not impressed with Ruger or Snap Shots

Sept 17th

finally got my 10/22 takedown back. if I hadn't #####ed and whined to Ruger it'd still be in Quebec

so the results....they put a new bolt in it. the original one was out of spec and causing all kinds of problems

I put a Kidd extractor in it just to make sure it extracts 100%. it has a bolt buffer, and bolt release mod done.

I haven't had time to put a whole lot of rounds through it yet but I did put 110 rounds through it using the rotary mag, Butler Creek mag, and TI25 mags. also they said they put 50 rounds through it when they changed the bolt and tested the gun

the results.....no FTF, no FTE, no more stovepipes since I put the Kidd extractor in it, no double feeds, BUT.....I did get one trigger pull and two shots fired once using a Butler Creek mag one time.......I'm hoping this will not happen again.

hoping to put a brick of ammo through it soon to test for any more issues. so far all is good except that one time it fired twice with one trigger pull

does anyone else ever get double shots with one trigger pull? is this common on 10/22's? or on newer 10/22's?

I will report back after putting a brick of ammo through the gun

250 rounds through it now....one bent bullet using a rotary mag. go figure...

no more double feeds, no stovepipes. feeds and ejects like it should. the Kidd extractor is great. I highly recommend it

now the bad.....it still shoots double shots with one trigger pull. it's happened 5 times now......so 1 out of each 50 shots is a double shot from a single trigger pull.

I guess on the good side it's not firing out of battery any more so the doubles haven't blown up. only a slight bulge in the case

all the mags are working, even the TI25 mags that I #####ed about so much before. I guess this is about as good as Ruger can get it

I honestly don't want to send it back for more warantee work but multiple shots with one trigger pull doesn't seem like a very safe gun to me

contacted Ruger again.....explained the continued double shots

I was told to contact Snap Shots again and send the 10/22 back to Quebec for evaluation

honestly I don't even want this POS any more. I think they should have test fired more than 50 rounds through it

Not to start anything but have you let someone else try it to see if it doubles for them? I had an over/under shotgun that doubled once every 4 or 5 times when I shot it but never for my friend who now owns it. We never have figured out why it does it for me and not him or anyone else who has shot it.

I will let my friend try it out before sending it away again.

Snap Shots is slow as molasses so there'll be lots of time. they don't read or respond to any emails. you have to correspond with them through a third party.....Ruger.

it took a month for them to change out a bolt and send it back to me.

Try undoing your mods and go back to the factory parts and see if the rifle still doubles.

I took the bolt buffer out, and the Kidd extractor out. there's nothing I can do about the bolt release mod

fired 20 rounds and still doubles

I have to get my buddy to fire it to prove it just isn't me

the gun is already ten times better than before.....I mean I couldn't get through a single magazine without 2 or 3 jams when I first got it. and firing out of battery, blowing up.

now the gun feeds and ejects perfect except for one time in 270 rounds. but still double fires.....but almost chambered. instead of blown casings like before, now I just have bulged casings.

I feel like I'm whining and complaining a lot, but I seem to be the only person that has this double fire problem.

add to the frustration that Ruger refuses to replace or refund the rifle, and Snap Shots doesn't communicate with customers so everything I want to relay to Snap Shots has to be through Ruger in the US

Try undoing your mods and go back to the factory parts and see if the rifle still doubles.
