Wasn't sure if this belonged here or under Hunting and Sporting Arms. But I don't hunt and this will be used for target shooting so here it is:

Needed something to shoot 5.56 until this whole debacle gets overturned so I got this from I Run Guns. I was thinking of upgrading the stock but it is actually really solid so I will just leave it for now. Installed a Tac-Pro cheek rest to get a proper cheek weld and a Vortex Viper HS-T 6-24x50 mounted in ATRS rings. The 5 round rotary mag is really cheap so hopefully Magpul releases their new AICS mag soon. Gravel Agency got back to me though and said it would likely be the fall at least before we see those.

I adjusted the trigger down as far as it would go and it averaged 3 Lbs 0.5 Oz across 10 pulls on a Wheeler digital gauge. Surprisingly crisp with no noticeable creep. Basically a slightly heavier Accu-trigger.

Anyone have suggestions for a decent linear comp that will work well with the barrel profile? I have a Midwest Industries brake that would look good on there but I can't time it properly without the risk of damaging something.

I like the americans except for the fit and finish, but I can live with it. Save yourself some time before sighting it in and check the barrel channel for clearance, both I have experience with had very minor problems. 5.56 had a casting nub left on that pressed on the barrel, quick clip with tonail clippers and things were all better. A friends 308 was contacting on the right hand side. Opened the channel with a dowel and sandpaper again all better. Minor but annoying, enjoy and I am watching what others say about the comp!

I think Dlask makes a linear compensator that is almost the same size as the A2 flash hider. One of mine is wearing a M4-72 , what a blast !

I’m also waiting for the magpul 223 AICS to hit the market to drop a Ranch in a chassis.

5.56 Ruger American, uses AR mags. I added a Magpul Procomp and a Bushnell Elite Tactical 5-15X rescued from a newly prohibited....I am thinking that I want to save up to put her in a MDT chassis....

I miss Iron Sights on rifles.... they are a rarity now. How can a rifle be a "Ranch Rifle" without stock iron sights? Stock Irons and AR-Mag Capability oh i'd pay for that. Otherwise they look like decent rifles.

I have a Gamma 5.56 brake on mine, works great. Mine is set up for Coyote hunting. Did a sponge camo paint job, added a Matthews Fabrication cheek riser, Cabelas Covenant 4-16x40mm FFP, and Leupold PRW2 rings. Running Nosler Varmageddons over Varget in range pick up brass, can’t believe how this thing shoots for the money!

You are speaking my language! I wish more rifles came with iron sights, this is a nice looking rifle for the price but the lack of iron sights in kind of a turn off.

I had the Mossberg MVP patrol in 5.56, it had iron sights and AR mags but it still left something to be desired.

Hey Poohbah,
I recalled a thread about this on RugerForum. http s://www.rugerforum.net/threads/can-you-convert-an-american-predator-stock-from-rotary-mags-to-ai-mags.388915/ Looks like your stock has the proper cutout to do this mod, so you should contact Rugetr to get the correct parts. I have an older stock that's non-compliant so would need lots of 'fitting' to make work. . . guess that's a Winter project.
Good luck,
Buck

I had the chance to shoot the American Ranch AR mags in 5.56, it shoot about mOA, the trigger is horrible and heavy, the action is not that smooth, but in fairness, shot it from the factory box, .. any after market trigger spring just to lighten the pull?

I just picked up a Ranch. Couldn't resist FOC's sale lol. Will post pics when I get some accessories installed.
What grain weight ammo do these rifles like?

I'm assuming you got the 5.56 Ruger American Ranch? It has a 1:8 twist barrel. I've shot anything from 55gr to 80gr in it. With hand loads, it'll shoot sub-MOA for any of these bullet weights.
