Russian SKS45 long thread.

need more detail on uncle ed so i can update my sticky .

Uncle Ed`s Exchange is a large Pawn shop in Edmonton (right across from the courthouse). No website that I can see. I haven`t been in their store for 10+ years, but they did have a small firearms section at the back of the store.

NRA CONDITION STANDARDS FOR MODERN FIREARMS

(Manufactured in 1898 or later)

New – not previously sold at retail; in same condition as current factory production.

Perfect – in new condition in every respect (unfired).

Excellent – new condition, used but little, no noticeable marring of wood or metal, bluing near perfect (except at muzzle or sharp edges)

Very Good – in perfect working condition, no appreciable wear on working surfaces, no corrosion or pitting, only minor surface dents or scratches.

Good – in safe working condition, minor wear on working surfaces, no broken parts, no corrosion or pitting that will interfere with proper functioning.

Fair – in safe working condition, but well worn, perhaps requiring replacement of minor parts or adjustments which should be indicated in advertisement; no rust, but may have corrosion pits which do not render article unsafe or inoperable.

According to the NRA classifications, I got a "Very Good" refurb and "Fair to Good" refurb(?) and was charged for a Shooter's Grade and a Hand Select.

Anyone else?

This should be an EE Sticky.

Well I got mine..... Finally. It's ok, but the magazine has the numbers electropencilled on it. I was hoping for matching. I could have gotten matching here in town for cheaper...

Just ordered 2 russian SKS's from SIR (cabelas) today. $229 each with the bayonet kit. Apparently the guy on the phone said they're new.

The add is not back up on their website??? I guess they are still taking orders via phone???

Cheers
Jay
P.S. $229 is quite a bit more than the $169 they originally advertised... I wonder if they will honor all the old orders they have on file???

Am I stupid to expect the "hand select" to be matching???? It' ok, but not what I was wanting...

Well, personally, I'd rather a rifle in better condition overall, than all matching... Remember, if it was arsenal refurbished, they replaced and fixed parts that needed to be... Can you post some pics Val?

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Glad to hear you got your rifle... DHL = :runaway:

On the phone he asked me if I wanted one of the used surplus ones or a "NEW" one for a hundred bucks more.

For god's sake... DON'T TELL curtton THAT!!! ha ha ha If they truly are NOS (New Old Stock), then they would be gems!!!

I'm VERY happy with my 3 refurbished rifles, but I would pay the extra to get a NOS Russian SKS...

Cheers

-- sorry to hear this , Val , --- was hoping you would get a good one, or better whatever -- this whole SKS business, seems to be luck of the draw, But at least you got it !!!

geeez, now we are going to go through another 1000 posts trying to figure out what they actually mean by "NEW". Maybe they realized that they too could separate and grade the rifles according to perceived quality...

what year is it? etc etc etc

number and letter punches are on sale at Princess Auto for like $3 per set right now, you could always grind down the electropencil, and restamp it yourself, then its 100% vintage! ;)

Well,She did let you have the one She picked out for Herself, there Smartbomb. You should trade her, maybe eh?

lol... you're such a suck up. :p
Anyways, the one Val got me was a refurb... all matching, but refurb. Not the best thing out there, but I'm pretty happy with it. It was in very good condition.. and it's pretty much what I was looking for.
