Russian SKS45 long thread.

curious if anyone knows of any good synth stocks for these sks's? I will definatly be putting in my order on wednesday ...

also, what happenes if they get too many orders and not enough rifles?

Bugger all this talk has forced me to cave in and order one also.
2007 Gun Buyers Guide did an artical on Yougoslavian sks rifles and fitted one out with a Tapco stock and gave a glowing report on the American Gunsmithing Institute DVD,S The SKS Armourers course and the SKS trigger job.

So how many canceled orders will it take for Frontier to match SIR's price ?

it would be nice if frontier lower their price to match SIR but i suspect they may not (maybe alittle) bcos they may just take the mininum quantity (probably 100-200) from the wholesaler, sell a few to some members that will still go ahead with their orders and keep the balance till SIR runs out.

believe me it wont take long for SIR to sell out at this low price so therefore if anyone wants one afterwards then he wont have a choice but to pay the higher price.

Personally I figure SIR has already met their delivery volume. When I typed this there was 2346 views. We have 107 people who posted. So the question is : how many who didn't post ordered a rifle as well. I hope that my name is near the top of SIRS list, and it doesn't get misplaced.

I am not sure how many of you are deciding to receive SKS's from both places, and then send back the one you do not want, and I do not know Marlins return policy, but be aware that if you find out the SKS from S.I.R is crap, they have no warranty on military surplus firearms unless it does not function or is considered dangerous. The only thing they guarantee is the same warranty they got from their supplier, and that is: that they work, if not they will exchange them for one that would.

hey G, im not sending mine back to frontier cos i dont want to pay the shipping cost , im cancelling before they ship.

about your past beef with SIR , you are talking about apples and oranges , if i recall correctly your beef with SIR was they sent you a bubba nornico sks the second time, a bubba that was done in canada after they sold it and they took it back without carefully inspecting it and then they sent it to you, thats more to do with their procedure of handling returns, (you think they would have taken it back if the idiot honestly told them i cut a chunk of the metal out cos it wouldnt fit my after market stock?) , the fact that SIR took it back twice from you is good enuff for me .

heres the apple and orange part, yours was a nornicos , newly assembled rifles , we are buying russians , yes, they were used before and most likely been refurb at the factory by trained tech so SIR surplus warranty is good enuf for me. what do you expect for $166?

sir has had this price for over a year

No rush for me.

im not rushing you, its your loss... but you are mistaken , they did not have an ad for a russian sks for $165.99 on their site last year, matter of fact it was norinco SKS , the same one that heavybullet bot last year, they sold out last summer but they left the ad up.

I think I'll stick with the one I ordered through Frontier.

I've dealt with Marlin before and he's been one of the best guys to deal with. I don't mind paying more to support a guy that actually cares about customer service.

Besides, I'm paying the extra for a hand slected rifle. I would rather have 1 nice rusky than 3 random ones anyday.

you ever wonder why SIR do not have that extra charge for collector grade?

i think frontier is charging $269 for them so there is a fairly good chance i will get a collector grade from SIR for $166, lets hope.

it was like leverarms had a hand select charges of $15 to go thru their chinese sks (only allowed 11) , i wouldnt pay it cos there was no garantee i was gonna end up with a better one, i kept going back to look at their display till i found a 1965 factory 26 sitting on their rack, wow , that was exciting.

thank you Steiner and curtton..

ya welcome.

As for SIR and collector grade, having sifted through a few Mosin 1891/30's and M44s at their storefront I can tell you condition varies widely. From dark bores to unissued Polish M44s to early date hex receiver rifles in great condition, etc. One person may get a great condition SKS and another may receive a junker, your mileage may vary.

SIR may be cheaper, but they do not offer hand select and even if you attend the store in person you have to practically beg them to bring out more than one rifle to inspect.

please read SIR ad it describe the russian SKS as : very good condition ... dark bore is not a very good condition.

Well T, maybe I just had real bad luck, but this quote from my last message

The only thing they guarantee is the same warranty they got from their supplier, and that is: that they work, if not they will exchange them for one that would.
is a direct quote from the email they sent me along with a message that these rifle were 50+ yrs old so what did I expect. Though, I do agree with you that these are Russian and NOT Chinese so yes, your chance of getting a quality piece is much much higher and at that price you have to take a chance and buy one.
We could have bought two for what we paid for our Russians a yr. ago LOL

Please read the SIR ad for the Russian M44, "excellent" condition and yet some have dark bores with pitted rifling. It was the same story with the K98's. Many of them were great rifles, some were not. With SIR it's more of a coin toss than with a smaller reputable outfit like Frontier. My guess is that these will be in the same 'shooter grade' variety that Frontier is offering. Some may be pristine but condition will probably vary a little more. Again, your mileage may vary but don't be surprised if you don't get a top of the line high grade rifle.

im not that concern about what i paid , i like the one i have if i didnt buy one earlier i wouldnt know squat about it, yes, i paid $400 for my russian SKS but even if you told me that i could buy a russian for $166 in the near future i would not believe you , i would have thought you are high on something , lol... but here we are .... this is a chance for those who dont have a russian to get in at the ground floor .
