Russian SKS45 long thread.

It's seems good, get the odd shell casing stuck once in awhile but I haven't shot my Russian yet. I put a Tapco Fusion stock on it. It looks super cool. I just need a bipod. I can't wait to compare!

I found my Russian to be more accurate than the 1967 Chinese I had. My Russian does not have a chrome barrel, and I have read a few times where people say a none chrome is more accurate than a chromed one. I am not sold on that idea, and have not read any real proof on why that may be.

smartbomb, your carbine maybe one of the original unissued ones.

Check to see if:

All the serial numbers are of the same font with no re stamps or electropencilled numbers (other then the gas cylinder, piston, underside of the rear sight, extractor). The original unissued condition carbines have that deep red shellac finish on the wood with a single set of serial numbers stamped into the butt, unblued crown on the barrel, bare metal on the leading edges of the body cover "fork" (from fitting), two tone body cover, no wear marks on the bottom of the bolt from either the disconnect or the locking shoulder, and were stored with that dark brown stain on the bayonet.

These refurbs have a brighter bayonet, blued muzzle crown, lighter coloured stocks frequently with re stamped numbers in the wood, some with minor stock repairs, a darker finish with signs of some handling and wear under the bluing, among other cues listed in curtton's sticky.

If it is one, don't strip the shellac or "oil" the stock or remove the finish off the bayonet. A refurb would be a suitable plinker, with this one maintained for it's original collector's value.

Yeah, apparently it is unissued according to Ellwood Epps. I haven't field stripped it yet, but so far, it's matching the criteria of an unissued rifle... unless of course some one here knows more about that (Curtton obviously).
It shouldn't be a bad idea to polish it up a bit wouldn't it? Making it look prettier shouldn't degrade it's collector's aura. I'm still trying to decide whether I should shoot it a few times... or just forget about that idea altogether. Anywho, I do have a refurb coming in from Frontier anyway... I'll definitely be shooting that one. I didn't bother going for another collector's SKS cause I actually wanna shoot something instead of spoon it to sleep.

Just to side step the original thread topic, ( I forget what it was about anyways, it was so long ago :D) what is a Russian laminated stock going for these days ?? ( stock only) and since I am asking, how about a Yugo stock also ???

Where would someone who was not in on the pre-order pickup one of these "fine" rifles? I dont care if its issued or not, as long as its in good shape.

LOL no, I wanted to know how much $$$$ just the stocks sell for, for a Russian laminate, and a Yugo. (Stock only) I may be able to get my hands on one of each in pretty good cond. and thought it might be fun to steam any dents out and see how nice I can refinish them. Would give me a fun little project to do since its so cold out.

Well, I would imagine the laminate stock would be worth more - maybe as much as $100 to someone who needs one? The Yugo stocks are easier to come by right now since a LOT of beater Yugo SKS rifles were sold in the states and many users slapped on craptacular kydex junk.

Well Claven2,if you take a wander over to the AK/SKS forum on Gunboards, you might just get a tad bit enlightened as to the existence of such Russian SKS rifles.

Can you point us to a specific thread and post on Gunboards that provides that proof? All I've ever seen is a claim that "some 1955 dated came with a laminated stock". That might be good enough on GB, but not here.

Well the Chinese ones are a dime a dozen, usually around $15, so a yugo must be more I am guessing, you figure $40-$45 ?????

As for the Russian one, I did not think they would fetch that much. If the guy I know still has them, I guess I will scoop them up.

Let the search function be your friend. Same set up as here,so you should'nt have any trouble using it.
