Savage 10TR le/military

I did some ladder test with varget and 4320 this w-e using 180 gr btsp's from speer 0.010 off the lands. Varget was very bad until I hit the very precise 41 gr and I got 0.638 moa then opened up again to 1.5 moa. I had a good shooter try it and he got the same. 4320 sweet spots with that bullet where 38.5 and 40. Using lapua brass and Winchester primers. I kept getting flyers I don't know if it was the random torque I put on the action screws, oil and gunk in the bedding around the recoil lug or simply the "loose nut" behind the buttplate...:)

Honestly bobdbldr you should have to pay a dime to correct this problem, you paid the price the you needed to pay when you bought the rifle, I don't have this problem at all, why should you? It's not a small quick and easy fix. The rail holes are misaligned, to correct this issue you need some precision tools or you will have to install another rail or rework the hole and pull it...retap etc...

Yes you are right, yesterday I was so p!!sed that I couldn't think straight, today I just sent contact email to Frontier, and asked them to help me in the process of returning it for work or replacement! It isn't their fault for sure but as it was where I bought it, they should be able to steer me to the Savage reps and get things moving!
I am sure they will help out, it is frustrating for sure when I see so many others getting their rig all done up and knocking the center out of the targets!!
Cheers Bob

Mine shoots 3 shoot grouping of 0.580", and 6 shoot groups of 0.780" at 100yards. With winchester brass, 42,5gr of imr4064, ccl large rifle primer and sierra matchking 168gr bthp.

So does mine, but you just have to put the target 4 feet to the right of where you are aiming!!;0)

Sorry to hear that Bob, seems like you and I are in the exact same boat though. First time I got to shoot my 10tr was yesterday, not even close to paper (which was 3'x3' approx). Unfortunately couldn't get down to the 25/50 as some guys were shooting pistol. Going to try and take off the rail and remount everything and see if that works. . . . otherwise it's off for some warranty work.

Celtic1123, sorry to hear, I hope Savage does the right thing here, I am hoping to hear back from Frontier by tomorrow to see what hoops I have to jump through!
Just looking at the rifle the rail does not look off but I guess the problem may not be visible!
I will let you all know how it goes!

I would look into some millet rings.

The rear/front ring could be moved off centre in the direction needed to centre the scope.

They aren't the best option, but if the retailer and Savage don't repair/replace a ring combo like that may be the only option...... Millet isn't the most robust rings, but they are up to the recoil a .308 produces!

Straight from XLR Industries. They make a model specific for the Savage with a bottom bolt release.

There's no export restrictions on XLR's I take it then? I just call and order and it shows up in the mail like normal? If that's the case I'm getting one for sure

Exactly, just call and they'll ship it right to your door with no issues. I think they charge an $80 flat shipping rate.

Bumping thread!

Where did my bolt release button go?

Ah there you go you're on top now!

Unfinished project, still missing a scope, a metal bottom, and AI 10 rounders (yeah i'll stay polite, i'll just shake my fist at dark eagle custom mags in Canada)

I got a new sear from Numrich I used part #139590C
The sear is part of the bolt release, so I ended up with a regular model 10 sear.
Before swapping sears, I had to spread the lever handle on it a bit, notice how top bolt release savages have a slab side receiver so to speak. So by opening lever a bit you do not rub on round receiver.
Swapping sears took 2 minutes and a push pin.

My stock is factory, only has krylon paint to it in case you wondered.
Notice where my top bolt release is. Look at you're stock savage where my bolt release is. You will see a cutout drawn or lined, but not cut out. Carefully dremel that out and it will fit good.

Only drawback which I have not fixed, yet.
Trigger weight went from 2.5# to 4.5#.
I did not mess with accutrigger yet. Regular model 10 sear is dirtier than the 10TR sear.
I wish to polish it and clean it up before trying to adjust with accutrigger.
Ideally, I wish to get to 2.5# before even touching accutrigger.

So yeah, this was my way of saying eff you to 150$CDN 10 rounder mags, when they are 3 for 270$US.
Someone is definatly raking in too much on this, good for them if they are selling, but I have my cheap workaround.
And let's face it, at least AI mags will be usefull for so many future builds instead of a mag good for one application.

Any pics of inside of the stock where you used the dremel? Great thinking! Problem solved as far as the bottom bolt release goes!

Yes i can, i will order a new sear as i have learnt the hard way they are sensitive to polishing.
I polished it too much, and had to crank accutrigger to the max to reach 2#.
I wish to have 2-2.5# with accutrigger slacked to the max not cranked to the max. Like the factory 10TR is.
Factory we get 2.5#, and accutrigger is already slacked to max.
The problem is that shipping is real expensive, if anyone knows a place in canada that stock savage sears it would save me a good deal on shipping.

Came across a pic of a TR with paint job and wondering if one of you made one on yours ?
Make me think why not give a try one day ? Maybe not the same job as the picture but something more military.
Any thoughts ?
