Savage 10TR le/military

legion from this thread posted Savage has a drop in replacement part that swaps out bottom metal out for Accustocks so it can take AI mags:

Any of you guys heard of this part? I can’t make LD calls on my cell or my work phone, but if this were possible, that means you guys can run AI mags instead of dropping $150 bones on the Dark Eagle mags.

I haven't heard of that. You'd think if it were true it would be fairly well known. If it's true and is a simple installation with no fitting issues I would be all over it.

It's called a CDI bottom metal.....

Jerry Teo @ mystic precision was able to provide one for my 10TR.... Price was about 250 iirc. It dropped right into the HS stock I put the 10 into.... There have been some reports of fitting being required.

I'll try to post some pics later this evening!

Cheers!

notsorich guy, if you installed a bottom metal on your 10TR, did you do the top bolt release mod? or is bolt trapped in there until disassembly?

Anthing close to what legion is claiming? Something from Savage that costs "$60 and $20 respevtively", whatever that means, or are we just dealing with another Sunray?

Sorry for the delay responding..... I hate it when guys say they're going to post pics and then don't.....

Ummm.... Not quite..... I am not sure about, what ever it is, that would let you utilize AI mags and only cost $60..... I would hazard a guess that such an item would be made of the same plastic as the standard AXIS stock! lol

Here are some pics..... (I apologize for the phone pic quality, but I spend my $$ of Guns, Ammo and gun related gear.... Not cameras!) You have to specify which Savage you have to receive the correct bottom metal (Jerry was very helpful in that regard). Mine came with a small "L" shaped piece of alluminum that you would have to epoxy to the release arm. I didn't bother as it would have necessitated relieving the stock to allow movement and access..... As it is now it is accessible with a bullet tip or pencil. But, it is a 2.5 hand operation, manageable, but not easy peasy!

And here are some targets that I shot using factory ammo. These were shot before I dropped it into the HS stock.

*** All shown targets were shot at 100y***

This was shot with my M-14 handload.......

And finally when I had finished all the mods I wanted to do I built up a ladder test using Lapus Brass, GM210M primers, H-4895 and 168 SMKs. This was the resulting best 3-shot group.......

I have since built another ladder test testing higher up the load chart, and loaded a few more rounds at 40.6gr to see if I can repeat that group..... But Hunting season came and went, and silly season is upon us, so it will likely be the new year before I get a chance to really settle into a shooting routine!

I have a bunch of rounds loaded with varget and 168gr AMAX ready to be tested as soon as I can get to the range. Also did tests with IMR 4895, 42gr pushing a 168gr Berger VLD netted a 0.6ish 5 shot group.

Has anyone outfitted their Savage with the Choate Ultimate Sniper stock?

Im starting to look towards getting a new stock for mine... MDT TAC21 would be nice, but a bit out of my budget currently. Being a smaller individual, albeit with longer than average arms, I find the original stock to be a bit long for myself. I know the Utlimate Sniper stock comes with additional spacers to adjust LOP, but wondering where it sits naturally (same as the currently, or hopefully slightly smaller).

Ive also considered going to a Boyds stock in a nice thumbhole and bedding it. I know Boyds has the option for Custom LOP and this might be a remedy too. I am also fond of the look of the Laminate wood too.

I got my kel-tec brake for my 10tr and I love it, it doesn't look like it's twice too big like some other brakes. It's practically the same size as the barrel. It looks awesome and I can't wait to shoot it.

I would post pics but photobuckect doesn't work with my cell anymore for some reason :s

Just to say, I own this rifle as well and am blown away at how accurate it is for a factory barrel gun.
I have owned a R700 5R and would put the savage 10TR up with it anyday. The most accurate factory guns I have ever shot.

Still I have owned customs and no factory will ever beat em.

But extremely happy with the savage. Extremely.

What was wrong with it?
Shooting approx 3 feet to the right at 100 yards, there were a few out of this batch the same. I lined up a straight edge along the pic rail and you could easily see it was way off, I guess the hole were drilled wrong. Not sure how they fix that but I hope I get it back before spring! From now on if I order a rifle on line,,(except an SKS or something, I want them to boresight it and mount a scope of some sort to make sure I don't go through this again!

Hey Guys, I just got my 10TR and i love it!! Im currently looking for rail/rings/ and optic and i need some help.

Im getting a 20 MOA rail, and a Scope with 34mm tube and 56mm objective. What height of rings would i need? Also for down the road when i get a XLR stock.

Thanks guys.

Looking forward to some pics! If you're going to run the chassis, you will need rings as if it were a flat top ar, which means tall. 34mm tube, 56mm objective...what scope?
