Service Rifle Review of Falcon Menace 1.5 x 5 x 30 Matches 1-12

Yesterday, while shooting Match 13 (400m Deliberate), the wind was quite light, but changeable. Was making 1/2 minute adjustments. Scope responded predictably.

Good job.

Is there a non-illuminated version available?

I ask because I'd be upset if I got a $300 Falcon, and preferred it over my $850 6500 Elite.

I have not found the occasion to use the illuminated dot. Wouldn't bother me in the least if it were deleted.
Having the windage knob on the left side of the scope would be a desirable option.

How do I know? I was busy running the line (safety RSO), but yes, it's fantastic set at 1.5X and red/green dot ON!

Seriously, don't buy ONE of these scopes, but buy TWO of them! Great glass for the money!

I forgot to mention, on 21 Jun, I shot a personal best of 523.23V (something like that) using this scope. Truly, it ain't the scope, I've been working out like crazy lately. TimK knows that! I've been on his case a great deal!

:slap:
oh right... :p

That's awesome! I need to drop some too.

Thanks for keeping us posted. Lately, I've rec'ed about 3 more PMessages about when these units will arrive. Lots of regrets, I'm afraid. Many people are interested in these babies.

So, we'll cross our fingers and hope for the best....

Now about that illuminated reticle; I love it for Service CQB matches! It's fantastic. Your eye just gravitates to the red dot and one just has to keep that red dot centered on the target. Remember to keep many spare 2032 batteries, since I get so excited, I forget to turn off the scope until I arrive home and unpack the rifle. A week later when I return to the gun safe to clean (I don't clean that often, I'm serious) the boomstick, the battery is dead

Keep spares..... BTW, I found that a 2025 battery works well to replace the spent 2032, I stole it from my wife's vehicle key fob... Don't say a word!

ML16 reticle is a little on the "busy" side for either Service Rifle or CQB.
I'd still like the windage to be on the left side.

If I order 64 pieces they will do a production run of the 1.5-5x30 SIR in its original design, as the new design is not far enough along for production yet. No timeline on how long it will take though. More to come, hopefully...........

By the sounds of it, they'd all sell. Given the price point, it'll either be this one (I have no experience with this particular optic) or a Millett DMS-1 (first impression of that one was great. Had a look through one at P&D) to sit on top of my M14. My wife can pick and pay for her own damn optics for her gun!

Or you can stack a pair of 2016's to make a 2032... - true fact...

If you are seriously considering ordering one of these, please email me at mike@allengunworks.com. If I can get 20-30 firm commitments I will consider putting in this order. I just don't want to get stuck with 50 of these on my shelf!!!

Consider the following before you commit:

- They will take 6-8 weeks to manufacture. Delays are not uncommon at Falcon, but being a proven design things should go rather smoothly.
- I will try to keep pricing sub $300, but with the GBP the way it is I am not sure what pricing will be offered to me (waiting response).
- Once ordered, full payment will be required. I will not take any payments until I know for sure the order is a go and have a timeframe on it.

Please don't add any "I'll take one" to this thread. I need them via email to keep track of numbers.

Hopefully we can make this work. Hungry has brought the best out of this scope and I really hope I can make this work out. Otherwise we all have to wait for Falcon to redesign the new version and we don't know how long that will take!!!

Well, I received the pricing and it isn't that great. Because of the low GBP, and the fact that this would be a special run, the scopes would run about $350 if I were to bring them in. Our original price on these was $304.49 and we later lowered that to $284.49 when we were getting better exchange rates. The attraction seemed to be the fact that it was a sub $300 scope and performed with the big boys.

Thoughts?

Under $300 they were a bargain. At $350 they are still a good buy. Hungry and I are quite pleased with ours, I know the shooters who have examined mine have been impressed. There are good lower powered variable hunting scopes, but these have the windage and elevation adjustments that are desirable for competitive shooting. No washers on a string. They also give the impression of being a substantial scope. I know that I have not babied mine.

I will talk to them again and see if I can get a smaller order. This isn't over yet. We really want to get some more of these in. I just don't know if it will be the old style or new style. I will definitely pass on the comments about keeping the original reticle in the new model though.

I use the 1.5x5x30 on a black rifle flat top and it is a great combination. I always wondered why more of these scopes weren't brought in.
