Shadow 2 REVIEW, unpacking, initial thoughts (very pic heavy)

Had my Shadow 2 out for the first time yesterday. Put 150 rds through it to get it sighted in and get a feel for it. Then shot a 96 rd PPC match with it. At this point I am indifferent towards it. Not sure how I feel about it. I like the grips on my Shadow a lot better.

I am going to do a steel shoot with it tomorrow and that will help me make my decision as to whether I keep it or not

Cool thanks, I did order a 11lb recoil spring as well. Maybe I'll try it out with the 13lb hammer spring. When using a lighter recoil spring say 11 or 13lb's. Should there be any concern about slide or frame damage, of any type with there being less resistance compared to the stock spring, while the slide is cycling.

You have a shock buff now to ease the hit on the slide. The 11# recoil spring will bring the muzzle down faster for some.

Do you have any more input to add now that you have had more range time with the gun. I've only had mine out for one short testing. Being use to only SA Glocks and 1911's the verdict is still out for me on this gun. Looks like I'll be looking at a spring change to reduce the heavy DA trigger pull. Thanks!

My stubby thumbs like having a thumb rest. I had my 2 apart and the other safety installed in about 1-2 minutes. Part of that time was also spent swapping the mag release over so I can hit it with my trigger finger. I just like it that way.

Nope, I'm a righty and always have been. I just have stubby thumbs so I've always swapped my mag release to the right side on any gun I could. I've been running my shadows like that for years. I hit it with my trigger finger. I like it, that's all that matters! lol
 
abb1, did you ever get the springs sorted out? I just put a new 11lbs recoil spring and a 13lbs main spring into mine and can't tell a difference either. Was wondering fi you figured out why you had that issue. Thanks

At the moment, I have a stock recoil spring and a 13 lb main spring with a RPFP spring (this is a must). I have found that it only shaved 1/4 lb from the SA pull, but it did make the DA pull a little better. It is still over 8lbs though. I have an 11.5 main spring with RPFP spring coming from the US, and I am looking forward to experimenting with that when it arrives.
I have not touched the recoil spring as the guide rod is longer than the original shadow, so putting in an 11 lb spring from an SP-01 would be more like a 9-10 lb spring. It is the same effect as clipping a coil or two from an 11 lb spring in an original shadow. It will work, but could have a factor on overall reliability with a spring that low.
 
No, no, no. It is not like clipping a spring at all. An 11lb recoil spring is an 11lb recoil spring. They designed the 2 to take the same springs, this has been talked about for months and months. Ever since I first covered the release of the gun in Germany at IWA.
I've been running 11lb springs in Shadow 2s all summer and even lower in Zdenek's gun,which had a 6lb spring in it. (would not recommend a 6lb myself but the gun ran great regardless).
 
Thanks for the updated info. I have the RPFP spring on order but it hasn't arrived yet but glad I was smart in ordering it. I put quite a few rounds through today with the 11 lbs recoil spring and had no issues. I'll keep it on for now but thanks for the reponse.
 
Just did the 13# mainspring and 11# recoil spring in mine. Didn't notice any huge different in the trigger....DA is definitely lighter, but still 7lbs. SA came in a 3lbs.
 
I thought the same but after I put a few rounds through it, it felt different. The sa feels so light, like a light tap and it goes off. It's amazing.

Hmmm, I am not too sure where those discussions have gone, but it is only logical that if you have a set force between a set distance, that it would lessen the further the distance is set. I will not dismiss something without trying it though. I have an 11 lb recoil spring in my SP-01. I will try it in my shadow 2 and see if there are any issues.
 
The compressed length of a recoil spring in a 2 is 0.10 an inch longer than in a Shadow. Testing an 11lb recoil spring compressed to those two different lengths results in the recoil spring weight being almost identical. In fact in testing 5 different, new, 11lb springs that I have sitting here, the difference between the various springs is greater than the compressed weight differences of the springs at the different compressed lengths. Two of the springs showed the same weight at both compressions. It has nothing to do with the guide rod length at all. It has to do with the spring box length. (the part of the slide that the guide rod goes into) The springs that CZ ships with the gun, are the same as what they send with Shadows, they come from the same place and are rated the same.
 
Hey Slavex,

I can appreciate that CZ is probably extremely busy filling pre-orders on these, but is there any ETA/idea on when accessories and parts may be available? Eg, slide stops, magwells, magwell grips, etc.

Magwells and Magwell grips probably won't be coming from CZ anytime soon. I would be looking at third-party vendors for that stuff. actual spare parts are available now through the CZ web shop and Robin's website
