Short barrel 308 rifle, Any suggestions? What scope do you use?

Looking for light and short, going out in the bush. I want a shorter barrel for ease and moneoverbility.
Sadly there isn't much that fits that bill.

For light you've got Tikka T3x Lite, and Browning X-bolts are pretty light too. Ruger American/Predator as already mentioned are also pretty light, as is the Savage Axis... But none of those are short.

I've been eyeing the Browning Xbolt micro midas in 7mm08, I'm a smaller guy so the shorter LOP isn't an issue for me though. At 6.1lb and a 20" barrel there isn't much available that is shorter or lighter for us lefties... Aaaand it looks like Browning has discontinued the lefty micro midas. FFS...

Might pick up the ruger scout if that's all there is, or bring one over from the states

Hi yall, Looking for a short barrel 308. (Left handed options)

Also saw the ruger scout, but that seems a bit pricey.
Yes the Ruger scout is a bit pricey but it’s totally worth it, especially as an available LH rifle. I love me LH .308 Ruger scout, it’s on my never sell list

Another option is a LH Rem 700 ltr or LH 700 Tactical, Ruger makes LH American Predator as well that I’m pretty sure come with short barrels. Or a Tikka t3x ctr, but you’re looking at a 20” barrel iirc. 18.5”- 20” is the sweet spot for a compact .308, love mine.

Yeah exactly, I’ve shot rh rifles my whole life and as a southpaw I finally said no more rh bolt actions. I like a rh pump shotgun or a rh semi auto, but I’ll never buy a modern made rh bolt action. Surplus rifles or some oddball unicorn rifle sure.
Hahah yea same I got so many right hand rifles, now I'm at the point in my life, left hand only, semis pumps etc..

All you will get with 2.5" less barrel is more noise and recoil lol.
Trust me, this is mine and it's limited to earmuffs.

That thing must SHRIEK with that brake on it!

It ain't pretty on the ears lol, and I went through a half dozen brakes before I settled on a cheap Browning Recoil Hawg, PA M41 which is radial still gave me a face full of gas, anything remotely rear angled face full of gas, took a while to find something that didn't do that lol.
Good thing, every brake I tried worked fantastic for recoil and jump, there is so much gas muzzle blast everything works, other then the excessive offensive noise, it's like shooting a 22lr, the rifle doesn't move.
Those Hawgs are the easiest brakes I've ever timed/installed, weird design, I used blue loctite on the nut just to be sure it doesn't loosen. Ended up buying a couple more for different rifles they worked so well.

Being a lefty limits the choices, might be better to find a gun you like and getvthe barrel chopped.

Chopping and crowning is going to be under $300 including taxes and postage fees both ways to the Smith and back .
If you can take off the barrel yourself any local machine shop can do it if you supply the crown specs.
