Short barrel 308 rifle, Any suggestions? What scope do you use?

The ruger stock is pretty flimsy and the fit and finish of the machining is terrible. But if it’s a shooter take it. Tikka is worth the extra cost in my opinion.

I've had two 760s cut back to 20". Both were 30-06s. I sold the 1st to a friend and regretted it. I've had pumps shorter but didn't like them. 20 is about perfect for handling. The Williams FP is a good sight with micrometer settings and keeps the rifle super easy to carry. I replaced the front sight with a sourdough'ish front sight. Works very well. This rifle is also fitted for a Leupold 1.5-5.

I was thinking the savage scout.
Also saw the ruger scout, but that seems a bit pricey.
I would like it to be around 16-18" .
Any suggestions on what is out there?

Ruger American Ranch is a short barrel. May not be in 308 but 450 Bushmaster is great.

Ruger American ranch in 308. Every ruger American I’ve owned or shot has been a shooter. I have a gen1 ranch 308. But they now have the gen2 ranch in 308 as well. Cerecoated, spiral fluted 16” barrel. Sweet rifle.

I saw the gen 2 it was sweet, I'm just left handed , I did msg them to see if tethered was a left hand one

I have both the Ruger Scout and a Ruger M77 compact in 308. The Compact is a bit smaller and lighter and is a joy to carry when hunting.

The Ruger Scout in LH is a solid option. I have the 18" RH and it is a handy rifle. The extra cost is worth it.

I am though a certified Smith & Wesson Armorer, but this only makes me a gun enthusiast, definitely not a gunsmith. LOL

While not a lefty I have a super rare here in Canada 12.5" barreled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 Win

I wear magnum ear molded earing aids/sound suppressors ear plugs so no worries about loud blast

I load IMR3031 powder with 125gr Ballistic Tips/Accubonds @ 2740fps and 150gr @ 2500fps

Here is the super cool/crazy part that I did not expect I have the 125gr zeroed at 200 yards with that same zero the 150gr hit dead on @ 300 yards.

My last blacktail buck before I got out of BC I have shot 3 deer loads of grouse and 7 coyotes with the 125gr loads

I just checked Ruger's site, they list a RH Predator with a 18" barrel, but all the lefty models are 22".
