Short barrel 308 rifle, Any suggestions? What scope do you use?

Since short barrel 308 to me is a “bush rifle” I like to use bush ready optics. There is a case to be made for a red dot if you expect shots close and quick.
I have been running LPVO style scopes with dot illumination and thick reticle for a while now, ie: trijicon accupoint 1-4 German #4, vortex 1-6 pst g2 and razor, nightforce 1-8

These all weigh about 1lb and are quite compact. The bezel of the scope almost disappears in the vortex on 1 power making the field of view seem super wide and making shooting with both eyes open as easy as a red dot.

I’ve noticed that most bullets I’ve launched from a short 308 start becoming unpredictable past 600m or so… any scope I’d choose would be biased towards that shorter range application.

Have you considered the Savage 110 scout? It is available in Left handed model and is in the neighbourhood of $1000.

In terms of optics, I think the Vortex Crossfire 2 would be a nice combination with that rifle.

Why bdc on a bush rifle?
It is really hard to beat a Leupold 1 1/2-5 on a hunting rifle. Just fine for any range at which you might hunt.

On my 18”-20” .308’s I have 2-7, 2.5-10, 3-9 & 4-12 power scopes mounted. All of them get hunted with as well as see range use shooting groups.

As for scopes, my 7mm08 wears a Vortex Viper 3-9x40. But its not a bush rifle. If I was to set it up with the expectation I'd be in the bush with shots never exceeding 150m then I'd be plenty happy with a 2-7x or even a 1.5-5x optic.

I have one of those on my 10/22. I'd have no trouble using that on my 308. Good scope and undervalued.

I use a Vortex Viper 1-6 with a red dot reticle. Best of both worlds- red dot for close and can crank it up if I need to take a 300 yard shot.

See the new tikka ranch rifles? 16" barrels... Might be a contender... Seems like a basic tikka t3x but a short barrel... So naturally its about 500 bucks more expensive then a regular tikka t3x lmao

scored another coyote with my 12.5" barreled Rem 700 PCR short rifle in 308 yesterday load was 125gr Ballistic Tip with IMR3031 powder at 2740fps shot was 80 yards

my coyote numbers are down for Sept only shot 7 over that month the others were with my 6.8SPC rifles 95gr TTSX @ 2750 in my 14" barrel and 110gr Accubonds at 2750fps in my 22" barrel
