Shorten PAL Approval Times

39 days from when I sent in application till it went online and credit card charged for me. Eleven days passed since that, and my references still have not been contacted yet. I have had PAL for 18 years, and just did club ATT course, a refresher PAL and RPAL with test, just prior to applying for the R upgrade. Doubt I will see mine this year. Hope that helps.

Interesting, Ontario and BC seem to have a lot more issues re wait times than other provinces from what I've read. I've also heard both yes and no re the 28 day wait period for upgrades. Did you call them at all during that time?

Mine just showed up online on Tuesday and when I called in they said to call in the next week and I could likely get my refs to call. So I'd call in if I were you to see if you can get your refs to call in. Mine is a first time app for PAL/RPAL.

Yes, called a couple times before it showed online and C/C was charged and they cannot do anything for you. Just called today and was instructed to have reference call in, did that, immediately approved.

Question, for those that have had a PAL for some time, then upgraded to an RPAL, does the RPAL come with a new license number, or does it remain the same as the old PAL one?

Application received Nov. 3
Status showed up Dec. 12 as processing.
I phoned and got thru in less than 5 minutes, very nice lady, discussed my shop getting broken into last night and no insurance and was sympathetic (may have helped)-had my reference phone 10 minutes later-5 minutes after reference call shows up as approved!!!! YAHOO! Now I'm gonna be broke once it arrives-I mean more broke. PAL/RPAL new applicant/long time gun owner nut....only needed one reference and wife not phoned....

Hey guys, I ve been waiting since October for my pal. My buddies got theirs already. I had to enclose extra info and a note from the doctor. Im wondering if that is why it's taking longer. Anyone know direct line to bc cfo?
They gave you the official form or a simple note from a doctor was enough?

REBEHLE$@)
did you answered yes to any of the questions on section C?
I've heard that a simple speeding ticket or a routine check can add a few months to your application.

No none of them. Ive had tickets and had contact with police though, never been convicted of a crime. Was only charged once as a minor but not convicted im assuming this is why its taking so long but ####... Cant they just call me? Do a face to face interview something to speed up the ####ing process. If it takes a year and a half or something for them to just tell me theyre not going to approve me im going to raise hell

From what I have read on these forums, something as simple as your name showing up in a police file can slow it down. What were you charged with?

I bet you'll get your PAL sometimes in Jnuary. Try and call them, be polite and possibly you'll be approved in 5min. As long as you have no violent past there is no reason to worry.

Hi all I am new to this forum and have applied for my PAL. It has passed initial processing and gone to the chief firearms officer in my province(Manitoba).
I don't understand what that means?
Also is there anyway I can speed this part of the process up?
Thanks for any info

It means call them for an interview. They will most likely tell you to have your references call afterwards.

hi there, thanks for the input.
it is just a regular PAL that I've applied for. The lady on the phone told me that it goes to the cfo for final decision. I was just hoping to speed it up a bit, I really wanna buy myself something for xmas lol. Can I call the 800# and ask to speak to the cfo? there is no direct phone number to reach in manitoba that I can find.

Not sure how old this file is but worth a try. http://www.cfi-icaf.ca/files/CFOs.pdf Once approved I have heard they may give you the PAL number at which point you could probably order something online but don't think you'll be getting it in the mail before next Thursday.

Thank you very much. I did call the number and it appears to be correct but I got the answering machine inviting me to call back at a later dater due to a higher than normal call volume.
I thought it was funny that I was "invited "to call back. Nonetheless I think its the right number.

[For Ontario residents: you can send in your application before you get your stamped CFSC firearms course results back from the Ontario CFO and get the 28 day waiting period started earlier than if you wait and attach the results to the application. Questions 20(a) and (b) each have a box to check if the exam results are enclosed, so you would just leave that blank. Probably also worthwhile to include a note that exam results will follow. The 28 day clock starts once the application is received by CFC. If you wait until you get your 'stamped' safety course report(s) back you have added that to your waiting period, and it is often about 6 weeks.]

Has anyone from Ontario who has done this method encountered any delays due to the waiting period ending before results were sent in? Im hesitant with the holidays now to send in paperwork, and end up having my application moved to the incomplete pile due to lack of proof. Also has anyone had issues with follow on results not seeing up with their application? What identification or reference other than your name and info on the testing sheets did you send to ensure your results met up with your pending application?

Finally for my pal issued! Rcmp received it June 23rd. Been phoning every couple weeks, and an officer finally phoned me today. Did an interview and I checked this afternoon, it's issued. Early Xmas present!
