Shorten PAL Approval Times

That's like 2 months. Door to door. I'm almost at 3 months and there's still no progress, other than it being online. This is going to take a while... (Not even RPAL)

Sometimes I wonder if the sale season gives them a bigger backlog with transfers/certs for restricted etc.... I'm not sure why the time range is so varied from province to province. I consider myself lucky for my timeframe.

I checked Canada Post, my application was recieved in Miramichi today!
Do they open them right away? Since there's a 28 days waiting period (first time) there's no point in checking until Feb. 16th then?

No. In fact, once it appears online the received date will most likely be different from what Canada Post says. All you can do now is wait at least 28 days.

In my experience the date received is exactly what Canada post says. In regards to wait time for it to come online it seems as though they are down now to a couple weeks judging from some recent posts. However no need to call in until the 28 days is up

What are they doing in this time?

You'd have to ask them but if I had to hazard a guess, it comes online which means it got entered into database, then during the two weeks they told me to wait someone does their checks on me before they finally get to speak to my references. I've tried to "speed" them along a bit by making it clear I've been waiting to apply for a job that requires an Rpal but that was of no interest to them on the other end.

Lol . Mine arrived (pal/rpal app) today at Miramichi at 14.19h lol.
Rung them at 14:45 asking if they had it lol ( no harm in trying) after all the sooner it gets done the sooner I can apply for my hopefully new job ........ she was very nice and polite and informed me they were 2 weeks behind on mail but checked the system for me anyway but it wasn't yet on the system to no surprise ...... man if only I knew an insider to speed this up !!!!!!!

I was told on my CFSC that if you're applying for your PAL for employment reasons to write something on the top of the envelope of your application. I can't remember specifically what it was because I wasn't applying for that reason.

My payment of $80 got charged to my card on the 19th. So now I'm at:

Date mailed: Dec 17
Date received: Dec 22
Date shown online: Jan 16
Payment taken: Jan 19
28th Day of receiving: Jan 19

The torture continues...

When your license is approved can you ask for your number? And is a number sufficient to go shopping or do firearms purchases require a card?

Also what about online? If you get your number you can order online right?

EDIT: Bullseye Sports allowed me to buy the gun without my PAL. I could ask for my PAL over the phone (which I didn't) to initiate the transfer. I waited until I got my card in the mail. Called Bullseye after and they called me back when it was ready for pickup. Bullseye's policy is that I cannot take possession of the firearm until they physically see my PAL card. For online purchases, you need to show them a scanned copy of your card before they can do anything.

So basically until you have card in hand you're not buying anything?
