Shorten PAL Approval Times

Hey Guys, applying from Ontario.
I just mailed my application to Miramichi today without my stamped results. I was told my stamped results should be here in less than 6 weeks. If I fax them when I get them in 6 weeks, how much longer will it take to have my licence issued? Also, if they look at my application before I fax in my stamped results, what happens? Will it be put at the bottom of the pile? Can anyone who has used this method let me know how it worked out for them. Cheers.

They won't even look at your application for about a month, once you see your application online and that your credit card has been billed you'll know that they are "processing" your application. If you get your test results back with the stamp, just fax them a copy referencing your application number. You could call them and let them know that you have your stamp from the CFO's office and ask who it should be faxed to. By sending in your application early you've just got a head start on the 4 week delay.

called about my upgrade to RPAL and was told intial processing was done and it has been with the CFO for a couple weeks and there was nothing for me to do.
thinking i need to put in a call to the BC CFO, i have found a few different phone numbers online, does anyone who has actually called in recently have a number for me?
I have payed for a pistol already and would like to get it sometime this year!

Will be curious to hear what your result is. I'm in the same boat except mine has only been with the CFO about a week. I'm just impatient

778-571-3400 that's the one that I called. Seemed like I was connected to the Surrey office.

yup that was the right number, called and they approved it, should have my card in 10-15 business days!!
I am sure this has already been asked but does your number change when upgrading from PAL to RPAL?

Thanks to this thread I checked online and saw I had a reference number and that my CC had been charged, called them up today to make sure myself or my references hadn't missed any calls from them (we were all out of the country for a bit) and they told me to have one of my references call in. They both called in and the second was told they didn't need to speak to him and that my application had been sent on.

From my understanding that means it'll be sent to the BC CFO for final approval next? First time application for PAL and RPAL.

Correct. The cfo will have er now

how long have you guys been waiting between the time sent to Miramichi and your application showing up online? Sent mine without stamped results, if that makes a difference.

I'm not sure on the exact date mine showed up online, but it took a week from when I mailed it in BC til the date it shows they received it in Miramichi.

I sent mine by courier on Feb 9. it got their Feb 10 so I'm on day 18 today. My understanding is they wont even look at it until the 28th day they received it or later so it wont even show up on line for at least 28 day after receipt. As soon as your credit card or payment is cashed that is the indication that its on line or about to go online.

I had an interesting talk with a fellow that coached me for my first trap shoot. He was saying the same thing, that they wont even look at for at least 28 days but he was also saying not to bother calling them offering your references to call as this could adversely effect your place in line as they react unfavourably to this approach. He was saying to expect 8 weeks after the 28 days.

Personally I think a lot of these folks who have had there licences for awhile really dont know how the approval system works. It didnt make any sense to me that it would effect you place in line since when it goes on line its being processed and their is a reference number assigned to it. My references are not always readily available (not home, away from the desks, out on the road, meeting with clients, etc). Apparently when they do call it comes up as a blocked number (not sure if this is true or not). Since others have called in and got things going quicker, I tend to go with those facts over speculation. Anything that I can do to speed up the process I will do. The membership waiting list for many gun clubs in my area is getting very long (some up to 18 months) and some wont even put you on the list until you have a PAL.

The timeline for mine has been:

received Feb 2
online and in progress sometime before Feb 20 [18 days]
CC charged Feb 23 [21 days]
called Feb 26 [24 days]
reference called Feb 26 [24 days]

I don't know the exact date it went online as I was unable to check before the 20th. When I called I told them that I had been out of the country and I was just checking to make sure I hadn't missed anything from them, they told me I hadn't missed anything but the next thing they needed was to speak to one of my references so to have one of them call in to a certain extension with my application number. Since it was them suggesting my reference should call in it seems like that's their preference as that way they don't have to waste time calling people who may not be able to answer, however that may just be the one person I spoke to so YMMV. I would suggest calling in yourself first to be sure they're at the point where they want to talk to your references as if they want to interview you as well I believe they want to do that first.

So from the point of them receiving your application how long does it take for it to show up online? 18 working days? At what point would you call and ask wtf is going on if it still is not online by 20 days or so?

I am at day 18, everything sent as one package. CC not charged, references not contacted and not posted online. Will call late next week to find out where it is at.

Have a farm and having increased predator issues, can't keep calling the neighbor all the time. Hoeing to have the number as close to 28 days as possible. Already joined my local gun club and passed my hunters course (recieved my 3 year Hunter card last week). In in rural ON. Been told not to hold my breath as processing times are not great out here I've been told.

Pretty much the same here, except don't have a predator issue and I'm not a hunter, just targets and traps. You are LucKY to get into a gun glub. I have my name into a couple of places but nothing will happen without the PAL. I wouldn't bother calling until it on line. If it's not online it's sitting in a pile unopened so they can't tell you much other than it will be 6 weeks.

Don't bother calling until it shows up online. If after 28 days it's still not up then call. If it's not online there's nothing they can do. When it is online however call asap and get a reference number and get your references to call in
