Shorten PAL Approval Times

My guess is no. Even if your card was printed today, Canada Post would take longer than Friday to deliver it. My approval date was August 31, card was printed on Sept 2 and I had it in my hands on Sept 8. The OP says cards are printed on Fridays, and Sept 2 is a Friday so it seems like that information is still up to date.

Hey just wondering how did u know your card was printed on Sept 2?

I actually don't know for certain. The letter that the card came stuck to has a date of September 2. That's not necessarily proof that it wasn't printed on August 31 or September 1 and simply forward-dated. It just seemed to fit with the OP saying Friday is card printing day.

My RPAL upgrade was printed and shipped on a Thursday, approved the Tuesday before it (sent by courier during potential strike). So "they only print on Fridays" might not be 100% correct. It was in my hands the following Monday.

Looking to know the average time from being approved online and time it takes for license to arrive in the mail. I'm in Ottawa and looking to get it in time for a Cabela's sale :)

You can just call the firearm center and ask them to give you your PAL number.

Also, my application was approved on Wednesday and I received it next Wednesday.

I want to pick out an SKS from Cabela's and they require to have PAL in hand. :(

That's quite anal of them. I guess keep checking the mail from now to the 19th for your PAL. Do you know someone with a PAL? Go to Cabela's together and pick out the SKS you want and he buys it and you buy it off him when your PAL arrives. Personally, if I am in your shoes, I will tell Cabela's to F themselves and buy from another place.

I bought my first NR gun before I had my license. I went to Bass Pro with a licensed friend and told them the situation. They said I could handle guns, so they passed them to my friend, then he passed to me and had to stay beside me. When I picked one, the store paperwork went through with his name and license number, but they let me swipe my own credit card. He held onto the gun for me until I had the card, and when I got it, I knocked on his door and said gimmie my gun.

I wouldn't do business with a store that didn't allow a sale to happen like that. Their store, their rules...but my money, my sale. With all their quirks and limitations, BP is really in my good books because of that positive experience.

It is a bit anal of them, and it also isn't. I've been told it's a condition of their business insurance because across the gun counter is not considered "direct and immediate supervision" (which is a CC requirement for unlicensed persons possessing firearms). Imagine an anti-gun family walking through Cabela's just looking for fishing and camping gear and all of a sudden they see someone pointing a rifle at them. They could call the police, and depending on the "victim", the responding officers, the police force, etc. they could have a field day laying charges. Then certain media outlets find out and it makes us all look irresponsible.

I sent my application in on Sept 22. I didn't send registered mail, so not sure when they received it. I got a call from them on Oct 14th asking for another form of government ID, I used my un-restricted PAL on the form so I gave her my Drivers License # and then she said it would be likely my references would get a call early the next week. I thought great,,,then all last week neither got a call. So I figured how typical, she shouldn't have bothered saying that. So last weekend I was bored and went online to see if my application now showed up in the system, and it sure did. Not only that it said approved and sent out. So I checked again with my references and neither were called for an interview. Is that strange? My record is clean and I've had full criminal checks with finger printing for work 8-9 years ago, maybe that's still in the system somewhere? Or maybe they just looked at my handsome mug on my application photo and thought, there's a guy I can trust. :p It arrived in the mail today :)
Now to go sample some more hand guns and make my first buy. So far I've only given a Glock 17 Gen4 a try.

I believe if you already have a PAL for a little while, there is no interview or waiting time. I may be wrong though.

For those who are first time applicants, when you go through the check to see status you must input your last name, first name, birthdate, and city/municipality of birth.
Q: what are you entering for the last portion for birth? Is it at simple as "toronto", "vancouver"? Do caps matter? "Toronto"? What if, like me, you're not born in a canadian city and its two words? Are you including the space? I feel like a toddler having to ask this....

I'm currently on Day 14 after mail-in and nothing is appearing in the system. I don't know if that is because they simply haven't done it yet, or because i am not entering my birth place properly.

Birth place is not case sensitive; I didn't know for sure so I just tried. As for the space, I don't know...

Your application will appear online the same day they charge your credit card or cash your cheque. If that hasn't happened yet, your application is still sitting in the envelope in a pile. If it has happened, then try variations of your city name. They give you between 5 and 10 attempts per session.

The system is bugged, its crap.

I was born in "Komsomlsk-On-Amur" all I type is "Komsomlsk" and it ignores the other characters. So you probably don't even need to type the second word.
