Shorten PAL Approval Times

Well here goes! first post. I was told by a friend to send my application in a purple envelope (supposed to be some kind of fast track code?) I picked a pinky purple envelope from the card aisle, put my application in and sent it off. They received it on Dec 6th. it was immediately "in progress". Today they called me for my interview, They called my first reference right after and talked to him. My second reference did not answer,They left a message and asked him to call them and left my file number. He called them and gave a short interview. I just checked my application status and it says approved and in the mail! 30 days total. purple envelope?

kbks,

they received my application on the 2nd of dec, i called and made sure everything was in order. day 28 would've been on dec 30th and theres still no change in the status on my license. i cant wait for a decision to be made.

All these posts that do not indicate from which province the PAL/RPAL applicant is, do not help.
We can all commiserate with you if you're from Ontario (or even Quebec) and we can envy you your 28 days (if you're from somewhere West of here and East of the Pacific.)

But don't leave us guessing..............
Don't feel too bad; it took me about two months for an RPAL.

mine is non-restricted and im in ontario. from the sounds of it, ontario takes a little while longer? i phoned and was told that its in orillia at (i believe) the cfo's office? what does that mean? does it go back to miramichi after that?

Omg - status update

I just checked the status of my RPAL application right now and lo and behold...
here's what it reads:
Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued.

It was received on Dec 08.
Is this a record or what?
I'M STOKED!

BTW: I did exactly what calalta said should be done. Exactly.
Thank you!

It's good to be reading some "success" stories after all the nightmarish ones of Sept/Oct/Nov

well I checked again this morning on my application for my RPAL in Alberta and my status has been changed. It appears that it has now been approved and in the mail. After 60 days I can't wait to get it as I have already purchased my membership to a range. I had to call the CFO again yesterday to see what the hold up on my application was. I finally talked to a nice gentleman who informed me that they had difficulty contacting my former common-law girlfriend and thats why my application had taken so long. Thanks for the advice to continually call and inquire about my application. This was the 3rd time I had contacted the CFO and atleast the 5th time I had contacted the CFC but no one had been able to give me any information until yesterday. Thanks again and I can't wait to get out and shoot!

I think we should have a sticky called "Atta Boy!"
where all the good things that happen can be posted.

Guess its hit and miss. Some people in Ont. here have got through the process fairly quick from what I have seen.

kbks,

im talking about after all of that, from the time the cfc receives it, cfo processes it and it goes back to cfc (i believe thats how it works). i guess its hit and miss like redlite says?

Hey Guys, I tried doing a search with no joy so I'm gonna try asking.
The status on my application has been "Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued." for about 12 days now.

On about day 6 I followed the original post's advice and called my local (BC) CFO and asked for my PAL number (so I could buy my rifle from one of the online dealers here). She refused to give it to me and told me they don't give that info out over the phone.
I told her I could come into the office and prove my identity to get the number but she also said this was not possible.

Has the policy changed since the original post or am I just unlucky?

I did the same thing just yesterday and after thorough ID verification I got my license number over the phone without any problem. I think you were just unlucky to speak to someone who couldn't care less.

sorry guys I'm just going through the process myself now and I just didn't see it on the main post is the 45days they claim it takes. Is the 45 days in business days or just calendar days ?

calender days.... but I am sure that it would not be out of the norm to see it take a bit longer because of the Christmas and New Years holidays.
