Shouldn't be long now.

Did you do your restricted way after your non restricted? I noticed your first post about testing is from the end of January.

Thanks for the replys.

It was just the non restricted.
I did the test on jan 24th and it was stamped on feb 11th.

I didn't mail out my application until early or mid july just because I wasnt working in feb. Online it says they recieved my application on august 2nd and my one reference didnt finish their interview until yesterday.

Check your on-line status today because it MAY already have been moved to the "issued" status.

One of my references messed up and I had to get another reference - see my tale of woe post (page 197 / post 1,967 for details). I'm guessing, but because of my 6 week delay my status changed to "issued" about 2 hours after the second interview was completed - yours may have done so also. If it did, your PAL will be printed on the following Thursday and mailed out on the Friday. My PAL was delivered on the following Wednesday.

I hope this helps.

Yehaaa... finally in the system... was recieved 11/08/08 and today they finally gave me the app# and put me through to someone to be interviewed... that lady asked me to call back at the end of the week as my documents hadn't been scanned yet... so no go on the interview front.

At least I am doing the ATT course this weekend.

Did you call by any chance? I didn't have time to as I was stuck at school all day.

I called yesterday at lunch... my interview was a few minutes long, almost all yes/no questions, and they need to speak to my 2 references but not the wife. So I have given my references the App# and the phone number and extension, and I am hoping they call soon and finalize this thing.

Hi all im new to this but i took my course on july 08 for non restricted and here is my time line for it all.

Application Received on: 2011/08/11

Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canada Firearms Centre Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)

I never phoned them or nothing just amazing how quick it was

So something weird, but good...I guess, just happened. I came back from my Labour Day weekend vacation and found that my non-restricted/restricted PAL arrived in the mail. The odd thing is, aside from the typo of my middle name, which I already reported and will get corrected ASAP, is that none of my references were interviewed, nor was I...and this is a PAL with a restricted condition...in Ontario.

Is this a trap? LOL

It must be- run screaming!!! LOL, I hope you just got lucky- if you've got a security licence, you're already 'part of the system', I don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

When I was in security, I held an Ontario Racing Commission licence and that was a rather indepth process including fingerprinting that went into 'the system'. A few years later, my prints were lifted from a lock after a break in (I'm a locksmith) and I got called about it... so they know who I am. I don't know if you might be in the same boat- they already trust you.

Right on. Thanks.

Finally mailed off my application for upgrade to RPAL yesterday, after getting my last signatures from reference. Hopefully sometime in the near future I'll be able to shoot some handguns without needing someone else to watch over me like a vulture, in meantime I suppose I should renew my club membership so I actually have somewhere to shoot...or maybe a different range (hmmm).

Hey, this thread is awesome!!! I was wondering though, I want to send my application in early (prior to completing my courses) so I can get out hunting deer this season. I live in ONtario and the initial thread stated that I could do this, but what I am wondering is in section F of the application it asks if you have completed the Canadian Firearms Safety Course. My course and test is next weekend, but I plan on sending in this application on Monday. What do I check off in that section? Or do I leave it all blank? I know that I send in the paperwork for my tests after I receive it, but I don't want to stall the 28 day waiting period. Any thoughts on this?

You check it as no, but send a note along with your application saying when you are taking your course and that the paperwork will follow once you receive the stamped results. They probably won't touch the application for a little bit anyway as they are still somewhat behind because of the CP strike.

What's the process for upgrading to RPAL? Everyone told me I should get it and I said I doubt I ever would want/need it. Now I want a pistol...

I'm assuming challenge the test/do the course, fill out new application (new picture?) and pay some more money to the government?

My understanding is that you apply the same way as you did for your non-restricted PAL - application, stamped test results, picture, cash, etc. This time they will contact your referances.

my timeline for pal

In case it should help anyone, a big tip I was given was to pay by credit card, not by cheque, as they may sit on the cheque. Having some knowledge of the banking system it does actually take over 45 days for a cheque to properly clear.

My timeline was:

June, take Pal and Rpal courses

2 weeks later received stamped copies of course records (Ontario)
Immediately sent in pal and rpal applications, using Canada Post Expedited with signature required, during postal strike.

4 days later Canada Post notified me that it had been delivered. Checked online, showed time of day and who signed for it.

2 days later called CFP to inquire about my application, was told it hadn't been received yet. Advised that it had been received and I gave the name of receiver and date/time of receipt. An hour later it appeared online.
Called every two days to try and get the interviews done, no takers.

Week 3, interviews conducted. Be sure that you and your references have their full names in the outgoing voicemail message. CFP will not leave a message, period, unless they know exactly who they are leaving it with.

Week 4, day 27, called and was told it's approved, it will be in the mail tomorrow.

Week 5, called and was told that it was mailed out on day 31 (a weekend having been between approval day and mailing day). Arrived in the mail 1 week later--apparently Canada Post has really delayed service between NB and ONT.

Bottom line, stay on top of your application, pay by credit card, be polite, and don't wait for them to call, they won't. You should be able to get your PAL pretty close to the mandated 28 days.

Hope this helps.
