Shorten PAL Approval Times

ill post my complete timeline

Jan 28th-29th PAL + RPAL Course
Jan 30th sent to CFC via Xpresspost
Feb 3rd Arrive at CFC
Feb 19th Application online (finally)
Feb 28th All interviews completed
March 2nd Application approved

To get the finalized approval I had to call into the CFO, she approved it over the phone in a matter of 5 minutes, and it immediately showed online as "license issued etc".

I probably called about 1-2 times a week, once it comes online it all goes quite fast.

Application Received on: 2012/01/30
online still says "Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date"
all interviews done,

I called alberta CFO today hoping to be approved
was told on phone, because of the back log it could take up to 2 months for my application to be reviewd by the cfo

any one else in alberta have a 2 month wait list? is this normal?
should i try calling again, and talking to someone else?

Congrats Van; glad your worries are now appeased!

Good news from my end; as I suspected my license was received today!! time to celebrate with a few purchases ;)

here is my timeline for those who are interested...

PAL/RPAL courses completed- Nov 12
...ended up waiting for the test results as I didn't know I could sent in app before hand...

That's because you didn't read all the posts here like some of us did. :p

Glad you got it.
I'm sure your shopping list has been made.

Tight groups.

If my status says In Progress can I still call them and ask if there's any missing information? Or can I ask to do my interview over the phone when I call?

do both. It took them about a week to "prepare" my application for the interviews after it showed online.

I have a question as well. My license was just issued on friday. How long does it usually take to mail it/me recieve it? it says up to 2 weeks but does it really take that long?

I think it depends on where you live. I honestly dont know though

Woo Hoo!!

"Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks..."

Jan 26/2012: RPAL application received by CFC - sent registered mail without test results attached.

Feb 20/2012: Sent PAL/RPAL test results

March 5/2012: Called in to check status, did my interview, had my two witnesses call in. Done.

Now I wait to get the RPAL and start shopping.

Any suggestions on where to shop in the GTA - also, recommended clubs in the area? Thinking about Lakeshore Arms and Silverdale.

it may take a bit longer, mine was ~2 weeks. Arrived Jan 31 and went up online mid February.

In other news, the online progress report switched to issued today after 34 days!!!! I got my references to call in yesterday/today (they had been out of country on vacation) and it seems that that was the last hang-up preventing it from being issued.

Since its only a PAL i am not sure why the interviews were performed and i sure am curious as to what aspect of my application warranted further review but i am glad it is in the mail!!!! (maybe current address being in a different province than both references??)

now back to shopping for a cheap .223....

I just called Alberta CFO and they approved over the phone (luck of the draw I guess), I'd call again.

Timeline as follows:

29 Jan - Took PAL/RPAL
31 Jan - Sent application Xpress Post
6 Feb - Application received by CFC (took a couple of weeks to appear online)
27 Feb - Contacted CFC to see if I could do interview (1st reference also phoned in to do interview)
29 Feb - 2nd reference called in to do interview
5 Mar - Contacted CFC to check on status, they advised it's now with Alberta CFO, if no change call back in 3 weeks
6 Mar - Contacted Alberta CFO, she commented it was only received in Feb but offered to review it now, 5 minutes later..... APPROVED! Online status is updated immediately.

Got a S&W M&P 9 kit (and 1000 rounds) on hold, hopefully 2 weeks time it'll be in my hands :D

It's been more common for everyone to get interviewed, restricted or not, over the past 4 months or so. Personal suspicion is due to the LGR ending, and any media types that decided to do an application and write about it would find that to obtain soon-to-be-unregistered rifles you still need to go through interviews and reference checks. Of course I could be completely wrong. But in any event you're not alone.

Nearly all restricted applications had their references called. I've only read 2 stories of restricted applicants getting their license without their references being contacted.

in peoples experience, about how long does it take for them to print/mail your license? My RPAL was approved last thursday and I haven't seen it yet in the mail. I know it hasn't been that long, but i was just curious to see if they had like a 'designated printing day' or something

thanks

They do have a "designated printing day", I think it's Thursday or Friday. Mine took 10 days to arrive after approval.

Exnhu is right, there's a specified mailing day. According to post #1, it's Fridays. Mine was approved on a Friday (IIRC), and it was exactly 2 weeks from "issued" to in my hands.

That is the general perception. However mine was issued on Monday 29 November 2010, mailed from Miramichi on the 1st of December (Wednesday) and I received it in Ottawa on Monday 6 December post.
