Shorten PAL Approval Times

Wow checked my mail box and my RPAL is here... 100 days from arrival in NB to arrival at my door in BC... the ordeal is over. Not in a rush to buy anything restricted so no crazy ATT waits to endure right away, but I do see a shot gun in my very near future :D

I am sure if I did not go the the CFO office I would still be waiting... go in, call if you can't

Just a question / comment. I tried to search this but....
I just got off the phone with the ombudsman whom is staying in contact with me regarding a complaint I made for wait times with the CFO for course results.
He told me the CFO doesn't do anything with the course results - they send it to the Firearms Safety Education Service of Ontario (google search the acronym for them). And as a result, the ombudsman can't investigate further. They are a self funded organization. He also mentioned that he was told that they are currently running 45 to 60 working days to process test results.
So is anyone aware of this?
Also, if these guys are responsible for the test results. WTF does the CFO do? Do they only have 2 people working in their office as there is a huge backlog with transfer times.....It baffles me more and more the further I get into this hobby.
I also don't have an MP or MPP that gives a rats a$$ as they are liberal so no where else to complain.

I'm glad we don't go through this is BC, I got my results 5 min after my test and took them home, not sure why Ontario can't do the same. This whole wildly different provincial processes and CFO whims of fancy are ridiculous, either give gun control to the Feds or the Provinces not both... unless of course you really don't want anyone to have firearms and want as much red tape as possible...oh now the fog is clearing ;)

I was wondering the same thing. I did the test at the home of an AHEIA certified instructor/examiner. He filled out all of the results paperwork once all was said and done and sent me home with my copy to send to the CFC. I scanned a copy into my Dropbox just so I'll always have a copy on hand (even if my hard drive fails).

It seems the CFO can make whatever rules they like without anyone's approval, cases in point the Alberta CFO deciding the all guns at gun shows have to have trigger locks or the BC CFO deciding that you have to belong to a gun club to get an ATT or LATT

They are King

Good on yer, glad to hear you got it! no more underlying feelings of being a marginalized second class citizen, oh wait that's me ;)

Well I just called the Ontario CFO and was told if I have a common last name then they have to do extra background checks. I then asked how their process works and was told "its just how it comes through their system". So I asked well how long would it take to do my background check and was told "the person who is handling your application will not be in until next week so it will take a couple more weeks". They said nothing about processing renewals vs. new applications.

Pretty much sounds like it's all based on luck depending on who you get handling your application. People like my buddy (who sent his in after and has had his pal/rpal for over 1 week already) will get people who actually do work and push applications through while others like me will get people who are on vacation. Here's to at least 1 more weeks worth of wait... /donerant

hang in there! almost there! wheter it is 1 more week or 2 it is almost there.
Which range are you going?

Alright, all my interviews are done, the paperwork checks out, my picture is correct, and I've done all I can. Time to see how long final approval takes...

Thanks, I hope its only 1-2 more weeks. I plan to go to EOSC so I'm hoping they will have more training in the coming months, I decided to not do the May 19th newbie session for the exact reason of the PAL taking this long to come. Where do you go?

I was going to sign up there, but I am so close to Stittsville range that I just decided to go there again.
Not that I am pushing that range or anything but Stittsville has att courses going regularly every 30-45 days, so in the case you missed the one at EOSC then you have another option.
Fees/memberships are double, but in my case, since I shoot all disciplines (skeet, rifle, and now handgun) it's worth it.

Let me know if you want to swing by Stittsville one day and you can come with me as a guest. Cheers.

Congrats you guys!

Mine just arrived in my mailbox today!!!

Grats to all you guys getting your RPAL/PAL.

I have this compulsion to check this thread every night and see how long other people are taking, and I check my app, only once a day now :)

7 months, to think I'm starting to get impatient on day 62. LOL

No matter how bad it seems, it could always by worse; Even a 3 legged dog still has 3 good legs left to lose.
