Shorten PAL Approval Times

My application, with exams, was received at Miramichi on May 4th. As of today (June 18) it still hasn't even been entered into the system.
The call centre reps keep telling me "we are very busy".
I've been at this since early February.....and am losing interest.
Very discouraging.

Like ontheglide above, Miramichi received my application on May 10 and as of June 18 it's still not shown up online. I have also called a few times and was told that they are simply very busy right now, their monthly volume is currently 3x what it normally is. It is quite depressing.

My application was received in miramichi june 6th and not surprisingly nothing online yet. I haven't bothered calling and probably won't until the 45 days for "processing" are up.

Complain to your local MP and MPPs as well as the supervisor in NB.

My application was also received on May 10th and has yet to show up online. Glad to know it isn't lost. Sad to know an organization can operate this slowly.

It's really demoralizing isn't it? I choose to believe that the folks at the RCMP office are all good hard working people, they are just short staffed. Security background checks is a serious matter that affects us all. I just wish there was better use of our tax dollars for planning for peak demand periods.

Man the day is almost done and it is day 40 since they received my application and still the envelope probably hasn't even been opened yet :(

You do realize it's so slow intentionally.. but by the low level workers.. but by the design of the setup and those 'in charge" whom want it to be as annoying and discouraging as they possibly can

Again why it needs to be abolished entirely.

Ontario CFO extension is 7503.
Thank you -
Well my update (full story):
Course and Testing March 9 & 10
Mailed in Application on March 12 registered mail....received on the 14th.
This is the frustrating part - Didn't get my test results back from the CFO until May 27rd ( 11 weeks ) but they were stamped April 4th so I think they got lost in translation somewhere either with Canada post or in their office, not sure...regardless. Faxed into the RCMP on the 28th. Took some time to process, I kept calling to see if they had input everything - finally input on the 5th of June.
Did my interview on June 5th, by calling in. Had my references call in just after me.
Website said, finished the initial stage. Called to find out what that meant - sent to the Ontario CFO for final approval.
Called them twice to find out what was happening (had to leave message both times) last message was left on Monday this week, she called me back today and had a nice chat. 5 hours later Voila - Your licence has been issued. 15 weeks from start to finish.
Now it is just time to wait for the paper.
Good luck to those in the process, don't give up, I almost did!!

Now show that to your MP/MPP etc and raise hell since that is beyond unacceptable performance for something that should take no longer than 30 days including the mandatory waiting period.

Shalimar - During the time of waiting for my test results to be returned I got the Ontario Ombudsman involved, sent emails to my MP/MPP and Cheryl Gallant. Unfortunately both my MP/MPP are on the wrong side of the gun issue (my riding lovvvveeessss the Liberals). I took Ms. Meilleur 4 weeks to respond to my email. Never heard back from Ms. Gallant, but in all fairness I really just cc'd them my email to the Ombudsman.
No question something needs to be done!!! What else can I do - going to donate to NFA / CSSA to help the cause but I might as well be pi$$ing in the wind in my area as far a politicians go.

Do the same with the current MPP's opponents.. Towes, The press via letters to the editor etc.. basically raise hell since that is what gets their attention since it's negative and therefore can impact their chances of getting re-elected.

I did here and of the "3" local politicians the only one that actually responded was the local NDP MPP.. go figure. But don't merely sit back and wait since doing so they "win" and continue their BS.

Sent my application by registered mail on 2013/04/02.

Application Received on: 2013/04/05

Kept checking my online status last couple weeks and nothing came up so I figured they were just back logged...I'm a patient guy so it wasn't stressing me out.

Day off today so I thought I'd give them a call. The very nice lady on the phone found my application and said I was missing my city of birth. I was born in Hong Kong back in 1971 so I had put in Hong Kong as both city and country of birth. We had an enjoyable conversation where I educated her that before 1997, Hong Kong was a British Colony and its city/country status used to be a bit "unique", whereas today it is now officially Hong Kong, China. We talked a bit about its "Special Administrative Region" status from Mainland China and the peculiarities of government and economy.

Anyways, back to the point...

My application is now showing online...
Current Status: Your application has completed initial processing. It is now in progress. Please check the status again at a later date.

I was hoping she would transfer me on the spot to do my interview but she didn't and stated the application process will take a total of 45-90 days. She was nice so I didn't try her patience. I thanked her for her time and wished her a good day.

Moral of the story - don't pay any heed to their "45 day" period. If you don't see your application online after 2 weeks call in.

I just checked my mailbox and wouldn't you know it...there's a letter from the RCMP telling me to call the 1-800 number due to missing application information lol. 2 weeks wasted:(

Day off here in rainy Vancouver so called the BC CFO. I'm 2 weeks shy of 90 days but thought I'd try my luck anyways. The lady on the phone said "my application has been assigned to a firearms officer but they haven't had it long enough for me to worry about it yet"

Omg lol. 2 1/2 months and it's still not long enough. Feels like pulling teeth at the dentist.

Wow... so many of you are way too passive about such.. HOLD THEM TO THE TIME TABLE... and ##### at every politician etc etc... since the more attention drawn to this farce the better and the sooner we can eliminate it.

They must be putting something in the water or air out here in Western Canada. We've become very complacent sheep. Explains why the Canucks, Flames or Oilers can't win The Cup even if they paid for it.

not just BC... look at my post history and that alone screams most are too f'ing lazy / apathetic etc... and yet they ##### to no end about how "hard it is" ..

don't get me started on that BS....

Still waiting. Online status still not completed. Interviews were done over two weeks ago now. Oh well, they must be busy.
