I used what i had around haha so I used a 1" OD x 0.05" thick extruded alum tube to go over the barrel and brazed on the aluminum front sight piece that I machined from 1"x½" stock. The FO sight is on with a 6-48 stud and that drilled and tapped hole extends all the way through the ramp to a hole in the 1" aluminum tube so I could screw the two pieces together when brazing. The band is a snug fit on the barrel and held in place with a little JB Weld encouragement.Tell us about that front sight, I have been playing around with ideas for a banded front sight for a single shot 45-70 similar to this. Is the ramp welded on to the barrel band?
Nice, that’s sort of how I was thinking of approaching it. I was thinking of using steel, have a few Williams front sight ramps I was going to attach to the band but aluminum might be a nice option for the stainless gun it’s going on. Have some aluminum plate that’s thick enough I’m pretty sure. I have plans for some banded front sights on rifles too. Some will go on with solder, and one with JB Weld. The snug fit + epoxy is a trustworthy combo to make sure it doesn't just fall off. Solder would be more ideal, but requires a very close fit and obv not aluminum parts
The old Cooey doesn’t disappoint, I’m going to solder on some rifle sights to correct the high poa/poi of the short barrel. That is if I can ever recover it from the frozen lake. The woodgrain and finish on that single barrel sure is purdy!
I knew a fellow years ago who died scuba diving under some ice. Turns out there is proper training and if you follow it the odds turn in your favour. The old Cooey doesn’t disappoint, I’m going to solder on some rifle sights to correct the high poa/poi of the short barrel. Thought about jigging for them, at least if the shotty’s aren’t recoverable I might catch some Kokanee.I knew a fellow years ago who died scuba diving under some ice. Turns out there is proper training and if you follow it the odds turn in your favour.
Waiting for the thaw and some warmth might be a good idea!
Nice! There is something that just looks right about the retrograde… Modern military shotgun with wooden furniture.

Nothing quite like that feeling while you're scuba diving for sunken treasure... You've left the 2D environment in which we evolved for a 3D space in which looking over your shoulder isn't enough and the not-alone could be above or below you somewhere too!Lol .... Butcherbill lets us know how it goes ..... all my guns are at the bottom of a lake as well .... and I have this feeling we are not alone ....

I find myself staring at that photo and getting lost in the almost 3 dimensional quality of the image. It feels like I should be able to reach out and touch it. The warmth of the wood in contrast to the cool crisp electroless nickel metal and the modern nylon "tactical" sling that seems slightly out-of-place creates a visually tension that ,to me, is mesmerizing. I think you could sell framed life size prints, I would buy one!One more ...
