I shoot a plain-jane 870, matte black, extended mag, plastic furniture. Is it tactical? Is it hunting/sporting?

Just slap the whiners around when they misbehave and call it done.

:agree:

Interests get blurred, shotguns styles get blurred and the forums should be blurred together. I'm a sucker for a nice piece of wood but appreciate the pros of synthetic stocks. I have an 870 Wingmaster with beauty wood but also have a spare short deer barrel my son wants to "tactical" I own 3 Lee Enfields but also bought a SKS that is definately tacticooled for my son ...... not exactly my cup o tea but it sure is fun to blast with. If we want to attract new shooters and a younger generation then we need to share. As much as I enjoy the bantering :popCorn:that goes on by some (you know who you are) I firmly believe if you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say, move on. I think the moderators could maintain peace & order with a little effort so people stay on topic and speak from experience not opinion. I vote leave it as one forum to appeal to all shotgun owners since most of us fall with partly one foot in both camps. :cheers:Just my $.02 worth:D

Yes because they are used for different applications.

I hunt, but I need one for "zombies." However, I don't want to hear old farts to tell me that pistol grip is evil assault style "weapon".... like it or not, but my folding stock shotgun with assault style pistol grip assaulted enough ducks for my BBQ.

WIN/64
I did not call you an elitest prick I said you come off as one and no I do not think you are one.Too a lot of the members here your posts are very condescending and negative in that your opinion is the only one.
As for safety I have no problem with any one bringing it up but it has to be done in a positive way and in has to be explained as to why.
I am not going to pick a side on this even thou I came down harsh on WIN/64(sorry but you were right at the front of the line)both sides need to respect the others opinions.
As a mod I should be doing more the help the forum flow and be more proactive in curbing negativity. It is easy to misread(misinterpret) things as well and we need to be more clear at times.

I use hunting , sporting shotgun only. The split would save me a little clutter when I am doing my favourite thing, reading on Gunnutz. By the way I support the porposed ban on the word "shottie" and maybe even "mall ninja" and "tacticool". (just kidding, please don't attck me zombie hunters)

regards, Darryl

The two of you are gathering a rather large post counts of very little value. Why don't you both take some voluntary leave before some mod makes you a permanent example?

We are going to look at the number of people who have voted and the "logical" reason being presented.

The logic behind 99% of the votes who want it split are because they don't want to hear the same derogatory posts over and over again. Splitting the forums will do nothing from stopping the people who wish to show the rest of the world the "right direction" from clicking on that forum and taking a dump on the newest thread.

I voted not to split it, as it will not change anything.

And for the record I am not really that into the tac shotguns. I think they look cool and am all for people having them, the most tac I have a grizmag 18". To me we don't need a separate forum for asking the best side saddle for their gun, or a separate forum to ask about proof marks and engraving on someones SXS they got out of the attic. They are shotguns keep them together.

post #149 was a completely valid point - that unless there is some actual moderator enforcement of people continuously trolling tactical threads (or vice-versa, though ive never seen it happen) then the split is just a complete waste of time and will change nothing.

*edit:
just as darkshadow posted:

Confused

Old enough to have a pair.

Am i the only one that has no idea what's going on here? Why do people bash eachother over their guns??:confused:

My view: I LOVE GUNS and I AM HAPPY YOU LOVE GUNS!

I own:
A hunting rifle - Rem 7600 30-06
A Red Rifle - SKS
A (couple of) Rimfire rifle - 10/22 and single shot NAARCO
A clay shooting shotgun - Rem 870 12 ga
A (couple of) 'zombie killer' project guns - 12 ga 3" and 16 ga
A semi auto hand gun - Glock 17
A revolver - S&W 19-3 .357

I am still in need of:
A LOT OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF GUNS!

The moral of my story is: I am a GunSlut and proud of it. I like every type of gun and i take all of them to the range in the weekend. Am I weird??

i have yet to see anyone from the tactical crowd go into a sporting or heirloom shotgun thread and start ragging on the posters or their tastes.

Thats a good point. You should start trolling the sporting gun threads.

"Perazzi? What kind of a ### shotgun is that? What, you payed $8000 and all you shoot is fake birds? My pistol grip kills alot more than just little frizbees (think zombies) and it only cost me like $300. Plus mine can do it all with only one barrel. BUt I guess if you need two barrels you probably miss lots."

If whats already going on in this thread is'nt enough evidence that the shotgun forum should probably be split, I don't know what would be.

What's going on in this thread is proof that the forum shouldn't be split. Note the post count. It all boils down to interest. If there's no interest, there's no forum. And, when all the forums become boring, there's no CGN.

What this discussion proves to me is that we need the so-called "fudds" to educate the neophites to the fact that a shotgun is more than a piece of pipe that goes bang. And, just as surely, we need the "shottie" girlie-boys to remind the fudds that it takes all kinds to make the world go around, and that we have more in common than we have differences.

To anyone who I've offended with this post, I apologise. It was meant to deliberately poke at your sensitivity, so you'd realise that you don't have to accept what (or who) someone else says you are - especially when they don't even know you. (Maybe we should use the censoring capability of vbulletin to convert derrogatory names into inoffensive alternatives, so people will just stop using them.) Our discussions should revolve around making a point or sharing info, not attacking individuals or their interests. Even if your point is that a person's interests are juvenile or, at the other extreme, elitist and narrow-minded, you don't make any converts by saying so.

I'd be willing to bet that the firearms industry will cater to ANY tastes, so long as you buy something. And, what a competitive and bland market we'd have, if we all wanted the same thing.

Lets not turn a vital and interesting forum where we share ideas, knowledge, and perspectives into 2 boring special interest support groups. There's already enough boring forums on the web.

Leave it alone and how about the "mods" modding a little more to keep the "negative trolls" under control? I don't read or comment in many of the competition gun threads as they are of little interest to me. If tactical or whatever isn't "your" thing maybe try offering the rest of us the same courtesy.

Agreed. And, it's not always the fault of the responder. Some questions are worded in such a way as to invite discussion. Some might go further and provoke an argument. Mods have to understand this and kill threads that are trolling for a reaction, whether they're from liberal trolls or from long time members out to relieve boredom.

I'm not suggesting anyone get an infraction, unless they insist on provoking arguments. It's a fine line. I wouldn't want to be the one that has to keep a lid on it.

most people dont need the 'experts' to tell them that a Perazzi or Parker or even a Benelli is a nicer gun than their 870 Express anymore than they need someone to tell them that a Ferrari is nicer than a Dodge Caliber. they know.
the difference is that many people simply have different priorities and either cant justify spending 2-20x as much on a 'nicer' gun, dont really care about aesthetics and view guns as tools, or feel that they would be wasted on a gun thats going to get slugged through the mud and snow.

just as the guy who buys the Dodge and is perfectly happy driving to work in it every day doesnt need an arrogant ass with a Ferrari telling him how much higher quality, better handling, nicer looking, etc his car is the people who are happy with their budget pumps dont need Fudds shoving their opinions down their throats on a daily basis either.

No you are not the only one who does not have an idea of what is going on here, but I do think that you may be confused if you think that this bashing is about guns. I think it is about opinion and persona. In this cyber medium the normal social facade often becomes an avatar. The avatar often does not engage in discussion but wages war to protect an opinion or point of view. Expressing a differing opinion is often taken as an act of aggression. How dumb is that? You will find the same dumbness or bashing in every forum. Sure there is some useful information to be obtained in the forums, but very little. Most tune in for pure entertainment. It is like good hockey! Fights happen! No matter how hard the fight was at the end of the game it is good to remember that we all like the same things. An example for me is my dear friend ManBearPig. I happen to disagree with just about everything MBP says, except his love for Tikkas, but I would choose his side over any anti or non gunner. For those who don’t like the ####, think of it as a smorg and choose what you can use.
