Show off your Ruger No.1's

I love the wood on the 275 Rigby. What OAL are you using in the 7x57? I am struggling with my 1A, It is the first No 1 I have ever owned that wont shoot.

I've had three #1's, the last of which was one in .22-250 that has since been given to my son who lives in the B.C. central interior. It shot not bad but I always thought it should be able to do better. I can't remember where I got the magazine from but there was an article in it that, using some of the suggested improvements, helped improve the accuracy noticeably. It was in the Sept./Oct. 2000 issue of Rifle magazine titled The Ruger No.1, Shooting and tuning by Ross Seyfried. I scanned and saved it so if you're interested, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send it.

So far the best load has been with 140 gr accubonds at 48.0 gr of IMR 4350. (2.97 OAl if memory is correct) These shoot not too bad at 1.5 inches or so. If I can duplicate it I can accept that for a hunting rifle but I should be able to do better. I have tried 150 and 160 grain partitions, and 154gr interbonds, these groups are all over the place, horizontal and vertical. I tried some factory Hornady 139gr GMX The first three shots touch each other the fourth shot is 2 inches high of the group and the fifth shot is 2 inches low. Vertical stringing is sometimes common with the 1A's I know but I am letting the barrel cool at least two minutes between shots. The other issue with them is consistency one day to the next I am getting 5 to 9 inch point of impact shifts. I have done all the usual Ruger things, took the rib off and filed it down so it doesn't contact the receiver, the butt screw and forearm screws are tight. The rifle was manufactured in 1984 or 85 so I was wondering if that was some of the long throat era. That's why I was asking about your OAL. I have some 175 gr partitions but haven't tried them yet maybe they are the answer. The rifle wants to shoot I know it I just haven't got there yet. John pm inbound thanks for the generous offer.

I'll post some good pictures when it gets here. It's one of the Boddington series in .450 NE 3 1/4". Matte bluing, V style rear sight, Warne quick detach rings.

...I need to ad a 1V to the collection one day. I'd have to go 220 swift though.

Nicest rifle I ever traded away. Wife still bugs me about getting rid of it out from under her. She loved shooting it and was a better shot than me many times. Fortunately it went to my dad on a three gun swap. He said I can have it back when I can beat him at arm wrestling...hmph...the wheel chair hasn't slowed him down...turns out he said my wife can borrow it. What gives? Maybe one day I'll be able to post a picture of it.

Is anyone else noticing certain dealers boosting prices on existing inventory. I have no issues with new inventory reflecting increased costs due to the purchasing power of our deflated dollar. What I have issues with is dealers who seem to feel No.1 enthusiasts are a captive audience and are ripe for hosing. Prophet River just raised the price of their existing stock 1-S models in 9.3 x 62 by 150.00 from 1449.00 to 1599.00. Ellwood Epps takes the cake though, raising prices on 1-S, 1-V, and 1-H models that have been in their inventory for quite some time from 1425.00 to 1731.00, yes, a 305.00 per unit increase. I have dealt with both in the past, but I will be taking my
