Showoff your SHORTY 12G SHOTTY (14" or under and Mods)!

All these little boomsticks are fantastic. How about pics of them in action????
Not the best pic--it's a frame grab from a video--but it give you a little idea of the fireball from a 2 3/4" slug!

Next time, take the picture first then eat the chicken wings :p The Hogue 12" is a nice piece of kit. I have it on my 870 Tactical and it made a huge difference over stock.

Great thread folks.. keep it coming.

I wish it was Chicken Wings, more like gun oil. Made sure the action bars and bolt moved freely with a little bit of lube. I'm bringing it to the farm today and hopefully find something to punch some holes in.

Best muzzle flash I've seen on a shotgun, so far - (Shorty Grizzly 12g), lights up the room...

What is the purpose of the strap on the Mossberg 14" foreend? I haven't seen one in person but from photos it seems... odd.

I like the looks of EL34/6L6 foreend with the SGA rear. Can you tell us what foreend you are using?

The strap is pretty crude and just screwed in with four screws ( one of mine was overtightened and stripped). It would be better if you could adjust the length of the strap as needed but if you are using a regular butt stock I don't see how you could slip your hand off the front towards the muzzle unless you were shooting from the hip and your hands were wet or slippery.
If the strap is long enough you can grab it almost like a soft vertical pistol grip.

Hogue 12" LOP stock came in. OAL is down to approx 31.5" now.

Just shot a few rounds off. Hogue recoil pad is better than the stock one and the older one on my wood stock. Half of the cheek weld is gone with the short LOP, but felt comfortable shooting. I like the looks and feel of the Hogue, but did adjust my hold on the pistol grip. If you have long arms, I can see the short LOP as a problem. Hogue 12" LOP stock is available at Tacessories:

590A1 14" Cylinder Bore = At 10yds, a 3" HV #2 shell had about a 15" spread. 2 3/4" 00Buck had a 9" spread. Can't wait to get that fiber optic bead sight...

Before I went to a Surefire forend I made my own strap and just screwed it into my Choate forend. It worked well.

No doubt Geo, but I'll probably make mine adjustable in length so it can be snugged up flush or enlarged for gloves and everything in between.
I'm guessing you pre-drilled your plastic with a small pilot or at the least didn't over torque any screws so as to de rate their holding power.

Yours looks long enough to comfortably grab it as a flexible vertical forend..... have you tried it like that or just with your hand through it grasping the forend in a traditional grip?

I just used it conventionally. I made the loop opening wide so that it could be used with gloves or god forbid mitts if I needed it in cold weather.

I made it with scraps of straps and some screws and epoxy that I had lying around my gun bench. I dremelled the excess sheet metal screw ends to fit.

What foreend are you using? The strap that mossberg has crudely screwed on to there stock could use some refinement or simple as elimination.
Yours looks like a good fit, basic foreend.

It's an ATI forend, but definitely not a drop in replacement.

Not much is drop in on these short foreend assemblies..... I've got a hougue extended lock ring that's been kicking around for a while and just looking at what would need to be done to a typical length Hougue forend it doesn't look too bad. I would remove some material at the rear to let the assembly slide deeper into the stock and then make up the difference at the front if needed. Looks like the extended lock ring might need to be shortened a hair to work as well....

The ATI compliments your magpul butt stock nicely.

The OD one is mine, getting the do-dads off it, like the side saddle, made it better. Keep meaning to put a flush cup in the pistol grip but apathy and laziness keep winning.

For a right hander, my left thumb presses the lower M3 lever inwards to momentarily turn on the light.

quick pic but here's my Remington Police Marine Magnum, 14 inch electroless nickel plated barrel, plated +1 scatter gun technologies, vang comp follower and oversize safety, A-tacs buttstock with a rubberized coating.

Where can you get the short barrels for the Marine 870? Sheesh - I would love one of those. Either stainless or nickle plated, whatever. I dig that silver look - I have a laminate buttstock and forend that are identical to the laminate used on the Ruger Scout, and think that would make an awesome pairing.
