if it is a 550 series it won't be available in canada. It's a listed prohib. That is unless the laws change or they rename it.
Only 550, 551 and 552 are specifically prohibited. No one said that the 556 would be an exact copy of the 550.

It all depends. It could be labelled as a variant. The laws are fuzzy and its up to the gov't to decide. We will have to wait for the finished product before we will know. It is always a possiblity that the U.S. wont allow export either.

I read that to mean that the 20inch was an upgrade. Buy the 16 inch version and rebarrel. Preliminary info, who knows.
I'm sure they'll make it available in all sorts of barrel lengths. After all, they want to compete with the AR.

Oh well, I guess I'm the only one excited about this rifle. If it's not prohib, I'm definetely getting one. A Swiss Arms for half the price of the PE90 - sounds good to me!

The SIG 556 features a 16” military grade cold hammer forged barrel with a twist rate of 1 in 9”. The barrel is locked to the steel receiver through a unique system that allows the user to easily change out the barrel.

do the 55X series do this? sounds unique

The Picatinny rail equipped receiver is made of high strength carbon steel with a durable wear-resistant Nitron® X rifle finish. The trigger housing is made from a heat treated aircraft grade aluminum alloy

isn't the original 55X all steel?

The SIG 556 also features an ambidextrous safety and is designed to accept standard AR magazines

not sure about the safety but i'm dam sure about the 55X series not using AR mags

The 556 L will be ideal for upgrading to the 20” barrel for more precision oriented shooting.

NON RESTRICTED!!!!!!

after reading through it, from the description sounds as if the AR180 and AR180B are more closely relateled than the 556 will be to the 55X series. if the 180B is ok then the 556 sound s like it should be also. of course we'll have to wait and see.....

Why is the flash hidder upside down? Other than that I'd buy one, it is much less of a variant than the ones we have now but it mostly comes down to what the maker calls it on the paper work. What are the shorty sigs here called on the registration certs?

To be honest, and just by looking at it, I would much prefer a Black Special. And although some people would not agree, I would prefer a Sig made in Switzerland rather than the USA.

That rifle looks like a bastardization. If anything it will tarnish the SIG 550 series in the minds of Americans. Its trying too much to be an AR when you can simply buy an AR. Another good gun takes it in the ass to get the US market.

Just look at the upsidown flash hider and its American manufacturing quality is already evident.
