Sig522

I am wondering why the federal government would stamp these as prohibited, anybody else thinking the same thing??

These may go to Restricted most probably due to Overall lenght with stock folded, unless stock will be factory pinned.

I would get one for sure. It looks amazing !

i could see this selling better then 10/22s and showing up at the rim fire tac machtes.

i would love one so would the wife.

cant wait for the classafacation

Question is, are they aware of its existence and are they currently examining one for classification?

It's a rimfire, so as long as the OAL with stock folded is 26 inches we're good to go. May be prohibited to due being variant of 550 or 556? I would presume Questar is working to get it examined and classified. At $750, its added to my 'to buy' list, along with the Type 97 and AR.

As Lector already pointed out, it looks like a cast receiver to me. I don't know, I'm quite disappointed with Sig for putting out that red dot. I wonder where else they have been cutting corners...

Tomorrow I'm gonna measure the gun with the stock folded
and we'll see at least if it makes the Canadian non-restricted lenght.
I have the feeling that it is just marginal,
on the lip of 660mm (just over or just under).

You have access to, or know someone who has access to, a 552 to measure it? Sheesh, you have connections...

Sorry, guys... I was a little busy.

Here’s the skinny:
The 522 I've measured does not make 660mm.

The gun I measured had a barrel a little over 16”
instead of the advertised 17”.
It was “show” material (no firing pin, etc).
I do not even think it was made
from one of the working prototypes.
(I also have reasons to believe that this is made
by some other company for Sig Sauer,
but I was wrong before and
this is not really what I want to discuss here).

As I said, it had a 16” barrel.
I had only a tape measure on me,
and I was not allowed to take the flash hider out,
so I had to “guess” or approximate where the end of the barrel was.

But I measured again even taking in consideration
the whole flash hider. No luck.

I measured even in diagonal from the front
up to the heel of the pistol grip, no luck.
(Some people may remember there was some discussion about
measuring alongside the barrel OR
measuring in diagonal to take the longest dimension).

If the production rifles will look like this,
even with the promised 17” barrel, it will not make 660mm.

No matter how I tried, it would not make it.
I have made and re-made many measurements.
IMHO, if what I've seen is the final version of this gun,
it would need a 18-18½” barrel or maybe a longer receiver.

There were also opinions on the net (CGN first) about
taking the muzzle device into the account of the OAL
(but not into the account of the barrel length, yeah, I know...)
but only if it is pinned or brazed, but I do not have
any legal reference or docs on that.

I imagine there would be some people
who would swallow it like that (restricted)
and change to a longer barrel once the gun is in Canada
(I know I would), but how many would like to spend
another 2-3 hundred bux on a custom made barrel?

But, who knows, maybe US will say
fcuk you, we are not giving you anything with folding stocks.
(the stock of the gun I’ve seen is folding AND collapsible).
With fixed shoulder stock it will make the 660, and once in Canada,
Bob’s your uncle (and Tokyo-Marui your daddy)
and people will put airsoft folding stocks or whatever.

I know Questar is professional and thorough and they will make
their homework once again before importing this,
with proper measurements made in the factory
after they ask CFLO for the proper procedure of OAL measurement.

I wish I had 552 and 522 side by side to compare,
but there was only 522 on an empty table.

My girlie hands got ahead of me when I typed that:D. Thanks for taking the time to measure this Lector. For obvious reasons I hope questar or whoever imports them with fixed stock first.

Lector, did you happen to notice how the barrel is attached to the receiver? One could only dream it's as easy as the 10/22 but something tells me its not.
